this is the one on most of the 80s digi stuff , the dx21 also has this preset . you can also get the dump files from these synths and load them into fm8 native instruments.

sounds like phaser and eq to me , try eqin the highs of the piano quite alot and stick a phaser on it , make sure you turn the piano down abit tho cus itl be loud

yea i also use this effect on high hats , give it a decent amount of boost and a medium q , then automae it to sweep about , get that whooosh woosh noise!

i agree its definatly not essential , but i do think it can help you dissolve into the music and notice things you might not usually.
as far producing dub i found when im stoned i sit fiddling with one knob for about three hours and not getting anything done! so i try avoid it in the studio :lol:
