How to distinguish between dub, house, big beat and discotec

Mike, in one of your recent posts you said that all dub is based on reggae. Although, as I said, I think it should be that way, to say that today all dub is reggae-based, is simply not true.
Take St.germain for instance. It's considered to be dub. And they have salsa sound in their music, they ...

Dub on MTV: Space Monkeys vs Gorillaz - Laika come home

Mike, regarding what you wrote about Moby:
Anybody who says that Moby is playing techno music obviously has no knowlege of modern music at all.
That man is an artist, and he cannot be constrained by genres.
I mean, before the man even played electronic music, he played punk rock, so wha...

MP3 file which will not play.

bin_ez, why haven't you tried using Winamp to play your music files?
That's a great program, it's completely free, and there's no music file that Winamp couldn't handle.
To tell you the truth, i definitely prefer Winamp over Media player.
BTW, Winamp 3 is out now, so go get it.
<BR...

reggae samples

Hi!
Does anyone know where (on the net) could I find some reggae/dub samples (In terms of short wav sound files)?
I've been looking everywhere, but I just can't find anything, except for Messian Dread's samples in the Dubroom.
I'm not looking for drums/percussion, I have...

Recording a song in real-time

Yeah, I can see your point, Mike. Now, I would probably spend all that money on equipment, software etc. if I was going to dub professionally. Since I'm dubbing only for my personal pleasure and for a few friends, I find that there are quite cheap shareware programs that do just what I want. For ex...

Recording a song in real-time

Hmm, thanx for the advice, Mike Zee, but it all seems a bit to expensive to me...
Yeah, I know, if I want to do something good, I need the proper equipment, but... I think I'll try and see what's Live like first.
BTW, I was surfing a bit after posting my original message and found this wick...

Recording a song in real-time

Ok, so, here's what I would like to do:
I want to play a loop (or more at the same time), and then add other samples whenever I feel like it, and record the whole thing while I'm playing it.
I've tried using Fruity loops and Acid, but there I have to put the samples and loops togeth...

How to distinguish between dub, house, big beat and discotec

Although nowadays "dub" is an extremely wide term, my personal opinion is that it really SHOULD be based on a reggae tune.
I also know that a lot of people confuse dub with drum'n'bass. (!?!)
The main thing about dub is that it's mostly in a slow tempo, unlike drum'n'bass or jungle....
