A question to Interruptor about finding vocal talent

A friend gave me the address of the Caveman Studio. This is a small studio doing mainly dubplate specials.
As usual with jamaican studios there was always a lot of young artists around the studio waiting for their chance to record a tune or to do a special. I stayed there for a couple of days ta...

Psychedelic dub from the Northern Youts

"New World Culture" has a strong reggae flavour, pretty much on the funky side as i would say, especially the bass line and the programmed "dead notes" in the drum patterns.

It's perfectly ok with me by the way if people post links to their dub-influenced non-dub music here.

peace...

How to dub live?

Adats can be used like any 8 track reel to reel machine. There is nothing that could stop you from having different songs at different tempos on the same Adat tape. Either you manually record the 8 tracks to the Adat one after the other (i.e. drums on track1, bass on track 2, ..) or you bou...

i see..

to find out about the effect of tape compression you could also record to digital first, then copy the digital recording to a simple tape deck setting the recording level high enough to be in the nonlinear range of the tape, then copy the tape back to your digital environment. this...

Mike, I am not recording analog myself (apart from the Revox A77 2-track reel to reel i use for tape delays) but you may like Jack Endino's frequency response graphs for various tape machines:
http://www.endino.com/graphs/
<B...

Reggae intro

what i do occasionally is sample a drum intro, then cut it into small pieces with one drum hit in each sample. Now you can sequence your own rolls - this way it's much easyer to get lifelike drum intros since you are using different drum hits which already originate from the same recording.

If you really want one single recording machine including all the effects i can only think about digital workstations like the Roland VS-1824CD which can be used to record and mix including effects like echo, delay, re...

Mr. Brown by The Wailers - strange mix

On one of those cheapo CD-compilations of early Marley songs I recently found a surprising mix of the Lee Perry produced "Mr. Brown": The whole riddim/dub without voices is on the left side and on the right side there is voices only.
I ask myself whether the tune was really meant to be released...

REAL tracklisting for "Dub Chill Out" ?

What we know so far:

- according to Seano M. Oliver the dubs credited to Lee Perry are actually "Bunny Lee-produced tracks from the seventies, mixed at Tubby's by the man himself or by Jammy,(with one by Scientist,I think)"

- according to John Foreplay "Guiding Star Dub" is ...
