I only heard the snatches on LastFM. There are some nice aspects - but - I think you need to have a really accomplished product to present a collection of tracks as an album. Having reverb on the whole drum mix is weird. The relative levels of elements in the mixes seems wrong to me, and relative le...

To answer the other part of your question: The traditional, and for many prefered way to dub will involve a mixing desk. And if you are to use 'dub' as a verb then this is what one thinks of. In that case you will need to research what type of desk will be suitable and fit your needs. You can be ver...

Hi, Seperating instruments form a mix - in a word, no. It's like trying to seperate the egg from a cake once it's been made. Depending on the material you can have some success in cutting out frequencies to be left with an instrument that is dominating a particular frequency band. There are also ste...

I just watched a Synare demo on YouTube. At first I thought, wow, that's a reallly realistic sound - then as it went on I realised that was just the acoustic sound of the stick hitting the pad!

That little board kit looks nice.

With digital recordings I presume you don't get the synch issues you would in the old days of analogue. Video and sound should just line up (I think). DAWs like Cubase, Logic etc can import and display video. You then just get you audio into the DAW and line them up. Dedicated video editor software ...

Hi,
Nice to see forum users.
It sounds like you have a room/camera mic picking up the sound from monitors. Is there a way you could get a master recording and sync that up to the video?

I tried downloading this and it does not work. I have pro tools. could some one explain the set up instructions? thanks As far as I know Pro Tools uses RTAS plug ins. Interruptor's delay is a VST plug in. You need a VST to RTAS 'wrapper' (unless Pro tools now has this ability natively). And Interru...

If you want an all hardware setup then you need a hardware compressor if you want a compressor. If you go through a computer than many plug ins would be equal to or better than the Alesis, including some free ones, or ones bundled with whatever DAW you use. Yes, building screaming delay feedbacks ca...

What you're saying about loops is something I agree with 100%. You need to find a way to put the right feeling, the right swing, the right funk, into the music. The easiest way to do that is to play the various parts individually. Dub reggae is in the feel, not the timbre. . Yes. At first 70's dub ...

I think the Motif can sample can it not?
You could just sample a real skank sound. To make it more realistic you would want several individual skanks to be played at a given pitch so you don't get a slow 'machine gun' effect.

Yes, I would echo Vuelo's comments.
Hard left on the piano sounds weird - it either needs to be centred or have something related panned hard right to balance it.
And the vocals are a strange intrusion on what is otherwise a really good mix.

Hi,
Some nice stuff going on there in your MySpace.
Don't Go is very Moby-like.
Bi-Polar's mix was very good indeed. Good sound choices/arrangement. Maybe could have more overall variance in the structure.
Last track is a bit muddy, but you probably know that.

Drums very good on all tracks.
