Hello Solow and welcome aboard! Don't get the Mackie! You can record 16 tracks with it's firewire port, but it's playback is only stereo (2 channels) so you still need something to play your tunes. Is anyone using ADATs? They can be had pretty cheap, and seem like a not so costly way of playing back tracks for dubbing them on my mixer without having to use a computer and interfaces and usb controllers.
What do you think about them? Is the sound quality ok? Are they reliable?

Both. But I would consider plugging the overhead straight into the recorder, and not into the mixing desk that feeds the pa, unless we have a big gig where full drum mic setup is necessary.
