They have, cheekily, coloured it purple.
Tape emulation also interesting.

Seems a bit odd to me to have drums with such a lot of room sound when the rest of the mix is very up front.
On my HD650's the bass punches a bit hard in the mids.
Quite a nice overall feel though.

Re: Skank ina UK dub Style

what kind of effect is applied, apart from the compulsory reverb and delay ? I was thinking about a good phaser, but again, I cannot find one that satisfies myself. Reverb, delay and phaser are all I hear on that. There is an interesting splashy sound. I'm not sure what is making that, it may just ...

Men At Work were sucessfully prosecuted for just a few bars of flute that didn't sound to me very much like the thing they were accused of copying. Yes, the Beckford recording is definitely later. But I think it might be a cover (although it might be just a coincidentally same name): http://www.ment...

People Funny Boy / Sam Fi Man similarity

Is that a traditional tune that anyone can do (mento?) - or is one an actionable copy of the other?

UAD's SpaceEcho emulation similarly has few repeats then it's just a big noise, to the extent I find it generally unusable.
So, although your unit may be worse and could be improved, it seems to me not a whole lot different to others in this respect.

By the way, I've read that you need a preamp in order to avoid noise from the unit You don't have to. I just have line outs going into it (and the outputs going into line ins) and there is not a noise level I consider unacceptable. Noise can be induced into the tank if it is near power or other ele...

4) replace the selenium rectifier (optional) Selenium rectifiers are to my knowledge archaic, and high risk components, and besides can emit highly toxic gases when they break. Replacement silicon rectifier should be cheap anyways. I asked about this issue on the Sound on Sound forum and Hugh Robjo...

...So a parametric EQ you set the shape of the curve, then that can be moved up and down (left/right) the frequencies but the overall shape remains intact? Actually no. In the case of a semi-parametric EQ that would be an accurate summary. ! I was presuming Klaus understood when I said: 'Parametric...

Round and round on the bass sound

I have over the years put my bass through a number of boxes and amp sim things to get a better sound. I listened back to an old piece recently and realised I liked that sound more than my current one, which means buying back that piece of gear (which was the second of 4 bits of such gear). I think b...

Dont know if thats what you're after, but i remember few years back i've read here on DDB that you can get a spring reverb to be more boingy if u just mute some of the springs with some cotton, so that only one or 2 springs can move freely to produce the reverb. It is indeed the thing to do to mute...

Hi, Jamaican flag - for me that it is too much record crackle effect a the beginning. Dreadzone's Second Light album is a good example of what for me is a suitable level of crackle. I don't know about you but I listen to 70's dub from CD where there is no crackle, and it still sounds vintage enough....

I'm not a drum miking expert and these are just thoughts but: That is a really tight and crisp sound. It's got quite a lot of top end sizzle. Certainly sounds like close mics for each drum element. The hi-hats I think to get that sound must have been eq'd a lot to leave just that narrow top end. I t...

The drums are too quiet in comparison to the bass and guitar. Also you have a lot of reverb on the bass drum and bass, which is weird. I only know of one dub track that has noticeable reverb on the bass, and none with noticeble reverb on the bass drum (although I expect there are examples I don't kn...

I didn't notice the reverb on the hi-hat, but often with subtle reverb you only notice it when you take it away. I think the volume of the hi-hat decreased a little on 4 so that's why I didn't like it as much. A little reverb can make something not so up front and dry. It's perfectly reasonable to a...

What kind of speakers do you have? With drums there would usually only be reverb on the snare/rim shot sound (which would also be the main target in the drums for use of delay). In dub you might also have reverb being added to the hi-hat (in dub you might do anything in fact, but you wouldn't usuall...
