spring reverbs: BOSS RX-100 vs. FOSTEX 3180
Indeed spring reverbs create a lot of noise. I managed to get the noise to an acceptable level with the following methods, the spring reverb is still the noisiest device in my setup though..

- make sure you drive the reverb with full load:
open the aux send on the desk and the input le...

where can i get a tape rewinding sample
If you are using a sampler you can create your
own tape rewind preset which gives you far more
control than any premade sample by someone else:

- take a long sample of the sound you want to
rewind
- reverse the sample
- loop it
- program the pitch envelope of your ...

Hi Looter

As you are asking for timings in beats not
milliseconds:

Most used are:
- 1 beat per echo (Best dressed chicken, Doctor Alimantado)
- 0.66 beats per echo = 3 echoes per 2 beats (Jah Glory - Messian Dread)
- 1.5 beats per echo
- 0.5 beat...

two ideas:

- copy those parts you want in your mix on a separate track (if you have one left)

- get someone to help you mute and unmute the tracks during the mixdown

(or ahm..
- don't use an analogue desk)

I think what you are looking for is a dub siren.
Check the threads about sirens we already had here
in the dub production folder. Hope this helps..

If not:
The sound that can be heard at your link should be
no problem to generate with any halfway decent
synthesizer (...

Do you use live drums or synths/sampling?
I always worked with sequenced and/or looped drums
so far. With the possibilities I have right now
this will not change for a while..
The hardest part when sequencing drum loops are
the high hats. You can either go for a computer-
style approach which is simple or try to make it...

Tape loops in Dub
i think you'll have big problems keeping your loops synchronized if they are running on different tape machines. the approach could still be very interesting. we had some discussion about tape loops already in the "Lee Perry on 4 tracks" thread. (see the posts were Muslim Gauze is mentioned)

I was recently thinking about building a siren myself. I searched the net for instructions but didn't find anything you could use "as is". There are quite a lot of sites around with schematics for synthesizers. But I think these schematics are oversophisticated as they feature temperature compensati...
