style scott & horseman drum tracks on dvd
Thanks for flagging that up. Looks very interesting indeed. <BR> <BR>Also, a nice summary of dub techniques on that site: <BR><A HREF="http://www.drumdrops.com/drumdrops/inde ... GE-DUBTIPS" TARGET="_top">http://www.drumdrops.com/drumdrops/inde ... DUBTIPS</A>

Beneficial tube replacement
My new ones don't glow at all, which would make sense according to the principles described below. If all 3 had been glowing pink I wouldn't have been so confident, I'm not totally sure about the info below, but because only 2 were it seemed good evidence something was wrong. <BR> <BR>The thing I r...

Beneficial tube replacement
I read last week on the internet that healthy tubes either don't glow or they glow blue. <BR>If they glow pink/red apparently they are worn out, are likely to fail and need to be replaced. <BR>I had a look at my Spacexpander tubes and 2 of them were glowing pinkish/red! <BR> <BR>So I decided to repl...

Fostex 3180 - what tanks are used inside?
The person who sent me my Spacexpander (from the USA to UK) packed it ultra-thoroughly, he'd even removed the valves and wrapped them in their own indiviudal bubble wrap cocoon (and I'm still removing the little polystyrene packing chips from my floor - they seem to like those in the St...

Useful hum and signal path information
I posted a question about hum on one of the channels on my Spacexpander on the Sound on Sound magazine forum, and I got this very good reply from the technical editor, Hugh Robjohns. I thought it might be useful to reproduce it here: <BR> <BR>'Looking at the circuit diagram, if you've only got hum ...

Replacement knobs for bi-phase?
I've just bought myself a bi-phase on e-bay, hurrah! <BR> <BR>Anyhow, it has 2 knobs missing (although it works fine apparently). Does anyone know where I can get spare knobs suitable for the bi-phase? <BR> <BR>Also, are there any UK people who can recommend somewhere (as close to Readi...

Lee Perry jazzy bend sound
To answer my own question here: <BR> <BR>I've just got an old analogue Morley pro-phaser which has a built in foot pedal. There is a mode where you can use the pedal to modulate the sweep frequency and there is mode where there is no auto-sweep but instead the pedal controls the tone (I presume...

ANY EFFECTS TO SELL?
E-bay is a good place to find them - I guess most self-respecting dubsters on this site are going to hold on to any decent vintage stuff. <BR>I got my Spacexpander for about £100 on e-bay - they come up about once every 2 weeks on there. <BR>There are usually Mutron phasers and other vintage ...

Lee Perry jazzy bend sound
Well, perhaps listening again, it is just the phaser. But as an example the begining of Fisherman by the Congos, before the first lyrics, has a bit of what I'm talking about. Its quite subtle, but theres a single note that has lots of movement in it (after the yaow vocals but before the first '...

Lee Perry jazzy bend sound
I've recently bought my first lead guitar for chops (I've been playing bass for years). <BR> <BR>Anyway, this has lead me to listen more precisely to guitar in dub, the most interesting for me being the guitar on many of Lee Perry's tracks. I know he is supposed to have used a Mutron bi-pha...

The name of my act is Vital Feed - I've only gone out live with it once a while ago. <BR>The next live thing I do will probably be a sideline project under a different name, but I hope to be going out as Vital Feed again at some point. <BR>I've played at the Bracknell festival at South Hill Park fo...

How can you Dub live?
I have exactly the same problem - deconstructing my studio which is now cosily and ergonomically lodged in the corner of my room (in a kind of high rise fashion). I have been out live with it (very successfully)- but it was a bit of a hassle lugging the stuff then, and since then I'v...

Phono connectors too wide problem
Thanks for the reply and the trouble of putting the pictures on, much appreciated. <BR> <BR>I haven't yet found any connectors as narrow as that so far in the UK (altough I'm sure they must exist here), so I'm using the ones I have, and the unit is working fine. <BR> <BR>I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ...

Phono connectors too wide problem
I've just got a Spacexpander (hurrah!). The only phono connectors I can find have ends that are too wide to comfortably connect side by side on any of the input/output pairings. I can connect up, but this forces one of the Spacexpanders sockets to bend outwards - is this OK for the unit?...

I totally agree with Dr Zee. <BR>In my opinion I think in your situation your choice fortunately comes down to just 2 - Sonar or Cubase SX(2). <BR>Like I say to most people download the demos. Spend a couple of days with each of them, and pick whichever you like using the best. <BR>Either, ...

I use Cubase SX and you can indeed route the output of any track (you have to set-up the out busses available to Cubase (which will be the various outputs of your card) in VST connections, and then route the individual tracks to the appropriate bus) to any output of your choice that...
