How to fake nice organ sound with a synth?
Can anyone give me some hints what makes a good organ sound, like this? I'm aiming for something like this. A kind of swirling organ sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE1lzBvj0r0 So which osciallators and effects can fake something like this? What's the technical aspect of Hammond Organs? Does a...

Usually cheap mixers don't have a parametric EQ but a set one (usually like 80 Hz for Bass, 4 kHz for Mids and 10 kHz for highs). Or sometimes just mids are parametric (that means you can not only set the mid boost, but also the exact frequency of your mid boost). Good mixers usually have 4 differen...

Thanx for the info. The Mackie onyx 1640I is I believe 16in 16 out so one is able to send 16 tracks from Daw to mixer thru a single firewire cable. The other onyx models are not capable of doing so. My original plan was to record to DAW then send tracks/stems to mixer and mixer stereo out to Revox ...

Hello Solow and welcome aboard! Don't get the Mackie! You can record 16 tracks with it's firewire port, but it's playback is only stereo (2 channels) so you still need something to play your tunes. The main feature you need to dub would not be recording 16 tracks at once, but playing back 16 tracks ...

We have drums, guitar, bass, keys, singer and dubmaster. Our dubmaster uses a Mackie Onxy 8 Channel, Roland Space Echo and some Korg Reverb and his laptop. I want to build a hardware phaser soon for him (Bi-Phase Clone). We play everything directly into the board. Bass uses two DI boxes to split the...

Re: Dub
Hello, I play in a live dub band that uses a boss re-20 space echo pedal, hooked up to the snare, next to my boss me-70 guitar pedal. I do the Guitar, vocals, and dub out the snare. We are getting a mackie 16ch mixer soon. How do I hook up the space echo to the mixer, and how do I use the sliders a...

How do you record drums and handle stereo channels?
Hey, I was wondering because right now I record drums with only 2 mics (snare/kick) which gives a very lo-fi sound and I want to get 2 overheads to use the Glyn Johns method (http://homerecording.about.com/od/recordingtutorials/a/glyn_johns.htm). I use channel 1 on my mixer for kick and channel 2 fo...

anyone using ADATs?
Is anyone using ADATs? They can be had pretty cheap, and seem like a not so costly way of playing back tracks for dubbing them on my mixer without having to use a computer and interfaces and usb controllers.
What do you think about them? Is the sound quality ok? Are they reliable?
cheers, Franz

multitrack playback device?
What do you use as a playback device to get multiple tracks separately into your mixing desk, in order to dub them?

you can also use your computer to dub. I think Dub Spencer & Trance Hill told me they use Logic or Reason (dont remember which one), a friend of mine uses Ableton, and I use Renoise (which is free :D) There is a lot digital dub which is done 100% with the computer, and a lot contemporary European Du...

reggae tunes with lead melody played by guitar
can yo recommend me some reggae tnes in which the main melody is played by a guitar?
I want to get some inspiration how to voice melodies without making them sound like blues solos.
Only good example I found so far is Chase The Devil, with the jazzy octaves in the beginning.
cheers, Franz

There is a little fuck up at 3:30 but we never do 2nd takes, because it never sounds like the first time

Both. But I would consider plugging the overhead straight into the recorder, and not into the mixing desk that feeds the pa, unless we have a big gig where full drum mic setup is necessary. My concern is mainly about recording though, because the overhead would make the drums sound much better, but ...

Ok, thanks for the confirmation. another question: Now we are recording with only 2 mics on the drums (kick/snare) and we are considering an overhead mic. Do yo think this makes sense, or would this track be unusable for dubbing, because of the bleed through from the surrounding sound sources? i.e. ...

kick drm mic
Hello, there are special kick drum mics, designed to pick p the low frequencies, because mediocre dynamic mics tend to roll off lows a bit. Does this make sense at all for recording reggae/db drums? I roll off everything below 120 db by -6 db at least anyways, and boost 120 db by 6 db, because I wan...
