I see your point, but let me ask you, how does dub music get to be on the reggae 'radio' of sound system these days? It has to be promoted by a commercial interest first. It's no longer a case of you bringing your dubplate to the sound system operator. Rather, it's something planned well in advance,...

Thanks for your encouraging comments! I will get to work right away, although the results will be good but the time of dub legends is over. There is a cloud in the silver lining though.. Also the internet and computers has changed the way things are done and information and developments are perceive...

Wow, sounds like a nice machine. However, I can design and build a better one from scratch. with several bandpass filters, kill switches and effect sends, designed specifically for trying to make dubs from dry instrumentals. I always prefer to make my own gear when I can. It's good to know that post...

Some good thinking here on this thread.. The way I see it, there are 3 important forces that might act on the buried tape: 1) Subjection to higher and more constant humidity (moisture and temperature insulation) than in a surface environment; 2) Strongest magnetic force on the tape becomes the earth...

Thanks for that Yiannis. I find it very inspirational. If we look at what the brother is doing in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfwWXEOmly0 Where he seems to be taking a dub version of Max Romeo's Melt Away (apt choice), and he emphasises its dubness by just using the bass and treble to...

You can do it that way but the way forward seems to be to use something like PureData (on my 'to learn' list) or Live as a multitracker, and dropping tracks in and out and adding effects using a MIDI controller. In effect, dubbing inside the software. It should reduce the overall hiss and noise, but...

I wonder about 'dry' dubs.. If you have a mixed-down riddim with no effects and drop-outs, I wonder whether you could cut a 'dub' from that using just EQ and a couple of effects.

Thanks for that interesting information! Maybe I should have a go at copying that mixer setup of yours.. I agree with your line of thought. For me also, dub could never be done entirely in PureData or with software: I need my old-school hardware in the sound. So it's a real innovative solution to ha...
