starting an analogue studio
You're on the right track, KoCha. Just get some basic analog effects and add on as time passes and you decide what you really need.

I also want to build a spring reverb and have seen a few how-to guides floating around the web. Let us know how that turns out.

Kevin

A question to Interruptor about finding vocal talent
Hi Daniel,

How did you get so many good singers and Djs on your record? I know Kingston is crawling with vocal talent, did you just find 'em all on the street?

-Kevin

I have a Furman RV-1 spring reverb, I havent seen the Demeter berfore. I got mine for $75 but I've seen then go for half of that price. They have a very nice sounding sweepable eq built in and dry/wet controls.

If you want an all in one, analog recording machine with a REAL mixer (sorr...

There is a company called California Cheap Skate, better known as CCS, that used to sell Dub brand snowboard gear. I can't tell you if they still do because i quit getting their catalog but, you can also find dub clothing being sold by various likkle skate & snow shops on ebay.

-looter

I cant belive that the mutron iii is not used
Okay, here's a question for the mutron III owners:

If you could get a custom made mutron III clone, what modifications to the original design would you like it to have? I'm just curious because I've talked to someone who will build one of these clones to any specs you give him and i find t...

spring reverbs: BOSS RX-100 vs. FOSTEX 3180
I'd love to have a tube powered spring reverb like the Fisher but my transistor fruman rv-1 does the job pretty well. It has a great sweepable midrange EQ, treble control, and dry/wet mix knobs.

The first thing i usually end up doing when I get an old piece of gear is opening it up and loo...

I'm just curious about dynamics and have a couple questions for the dub-scientists out there:

When do you use compression/limiting/gate in your dub creation process?

& What do you use it on and w/ what settings?

Thanx
-Looter

Linval Thompson
Over the past few months I've become a Linval addict. I've downloaded almost every one of his songs that I could find. And I've found out now that he also produced some of my favorite tunes by Eek A Mouse, Barrington Levy, etc. If anyone wants to trade mp3s or whatever my email is: roymontague "at"...

Lee Perry: dub on 4 tracks
I'm not really interested in trying to re-create scratch or tubby's sound as much as i'm interested in the best way to record rhythms on a limited number of tracks. So I'm naturally interested in the way the "originals" did it.

Being still very new to recording I have a small "studio" in m...

Tape loops in Dub
You can play mono loops of up to 15 feet or so on any space echo type of tape delay with the sound on sound feature. I would say use a multitrack reel to reel if you want multiple loops going at the same time and in sync though.

Which Spring reverbs to use for dubbing?
There have been a few of these "Great British Spring" reverb tubes on ebay lately that some guy's been selling. Check out the link below for an auction thats going on right now. I was thinking about getting one, but i think the guy wants a little too much for whats really a piece of pvc pipe with sp...

Ganja smoke in the studio?
Smoke in the studio is not good for the equipment, and smoking is bad for the lungs. I think I'll leave it at that. Adults can make their own decisions.

spring reverbs: BOSS RX-100 vs. FOSTEX 3180
Interruptor: How do you like the rx-100 compared to your fostex reverb? I'm looking around for a good sounding spring reverb and considering both of these. Furman seems to have made some good ones too.

-Looter

New replacement tape loops
You can always splice it freehand by scotch taping the two ends of your 1/4" tape lightly onto a tabletop or something. Then cut through both ends at once w/ a diagonal cut and tape them together. You can use regular scotch or whatever tape for the splice, as long as it wont ooze sticky stuff and y...
