Sly Dunbar Interview (Sly & Robbie)

Post by interruptor » Thu Dec 25, 2008 11:39 pm

I recently stumbled upon this interesting Sly Dunbar interview:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/bhm05/featur ... hall.shtml

Radio DJ Robbo Ranx did this back in 2005. Being this the first time I hear an interview with Sly Dunbar I was very surprised about him appearing as such a warm and friendly person. Based on some of the Sly & Robbie album covers and their mostly deadpan faces during stage shows I expected him to be rather unapproachable. Thinking about it I realize that he could hardly have become such a successful producer without excellent social skills. So it's not such a big surprise that he sounds sympathetic. Anyway, big respect to the man! :worship:

bless up!
i met sly during my first trip to ja in 1998.
i walked into the mixing lab (without an appopintment) and told the reception man that i'd like to talk to sly.
he took me inside the studio where sly was having a session break with a few other brethrens.
we talked for a few minutes, he gave me some guidance to move around kingston and get links plus a few musical tips (i am a drummer myself).
sly, like most jamaican musicians, is a very down to heart and nice person.
if you manifest true respect for the music any jamaican musician will respect you and be nice to you.
one love!
