most record shops seem to be located in the northern quarter. here is a list from virtual manchester:

Vinyl Exchange
18 Oldham Street, Manchester, M1
Tel : (0161) 228 1122

Expansion Records
56 Swan Street, Manchester, M4
Tel : (0161) 832 1364

Fat City Records
Unit 16, 2nd Floor,
Afflecks Arcade, Manchester, M1
Tel : (0161) 833 9631

Eastern Bloc Records
5-6 Central Buildings, Oldham Street, Manchester, M1
Tel : (0161) 228 6432

Goldmine Records
8 Shambles Square, Manchester, M3
Tel : (0161) 839 3616

Manchester Underground Records
33 Fennel Street, Manchester, M4
Tel : (0161) 839 4043

Picacadilly Records
5-7 Brown Street, Manchester, M2
Tel : (0161) 839 8008

Power Cuts
Canada House, 3 Chepstow Street, off Oxford Street, Manchester, M1
Tel : (0161) 228 0473

Kingbee Records
519 Wilbraham Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, M21
Tel : (0161) 860 4762

music instruments according to knowhere:

Manchester has the standard music instrument shops, where you can get plenty of stuff at standard prices. These are Forsythe's on Deansgate and A1 Music down Oxford Rd. But why not try Chase on Oldham St. about 5 min. from Piccadilly. They've got loads of gear at cheap prices. And of course there's good old Johnny Roadhouse on Oxford Road. I remember when the building was in so bad nick that you risked your life (and a very quick trip into the cellar) every time you ventured onto the rotting floorboards. Nowadays it's safer, and you still get a good buy. Check out their used gear. I've got several great bargains from here.

also in northern quarter: the club band on the wall where you can check LUV DUB on Fri 27th of this month
