Reggae Database

Reggae is a very complicated music, with many versions of many different songs by many different artists. I find this facinating, and have been compiling a database of my own songs over the past while. I realize it is a mammoth task and I want and need lots of help. My database contains the following information: Artist, Song, Album, Session band, Producer, Engineer, Label and reissue label. Most important, however are the other versions of the song. "Invasion" from the Marcus Garvey album for example has been done over / remixed / dubbed as "Black Wa-Da-Da", and been covered by Jackie Edwards (I believe) and then dubbed by King Tubby as "A Rougher Version". To delve into Lee Perry's version excursions is also extremely complicated, and Augustus Pablo's productions have often many versions. I can't find the information I want. It also would be perhaps good to contact some record labels or the likes of Roger Steffens or that Blood and Fire guy who's name escapes me at the moment. Do you have Microsoft works? It's ".wdb" though, right? It stands for Microsoft Works Database. I don't know what other format I would put it up as.

I don't know what access is. What is it? I might try and convert it to HTML but it might not really work. I'll have to do some more reasearch on how HTML works. I can get a column on the right, the centre, and the left but I'd need a lot more than that. I'll see what I can do.

Well after some experimentation I realised that I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but I did save it in ".txt" format. It doesn't really come out that well but I'll put it up on my site and you can have a look if you want. Actually it comes out really terrible and is barely readable. The layout doesn't come through properly. Can you open either of the following types of file: *.csv *.dbf? I can save it as those types if they are of any use. Let me know. It looks terrible on my computer. The actual database is constantly being added to as I get more songs and as I find out more pieces of information.

Some from the internet, some from albums I have. It is nearly all the reggae songs I have, but I still have a few to put in. Like I got the Augustus Pablo album, "Dub Reggae and Roots from the Melodica King" the other day and it is too complicated. Some of the songs are already in the database, from other albums and I have different version of some of them as well.

Hi, hope you can provide the info that's doin' my head in, been trying to find a copy of an album i have on cassette by the great EXUMA. Notes on the tape claim it's with Sly & Robbie and from 1970,...but no Exuma discography i've ever found matches this.. the tracks are as follows: Kingston Woman Jamaica Rastafari-I World is made of love Burn Dolly Sky Juice Joshua Producer Man Please help !!!!! this is a wonderful album but the tape is breaking up with age...
