Dub + hip hop + funk???

the problem in mixing dub and funk is that typical funky beats have a lot of drum variations, syncopations and fills. so there is hardly any space to occupy with dubby echoes. typically dub is relaxed downtempo music with a lot of space. funk is upbeat party stuff. quite the contrary..

sure there is common ground too. some reggae riddims clearly have a funky feel. listen to the maytal's "funky kingston" or the drum&bass break in the wailer's "i shot the sheriff". on the other hand the meter's "cissy strut" is funkin in a very reggae-compatible way.

dub and hiphop would fit together more easy but i don't know bands doing that. sure some of the heavier hiphop beats can be used for dub too. but if you start rapping over a dub it won't be dub anymore..
