What organ is this?

Post by Red eye » Tue Jun 17, 2014 11:40 am

Hello,

For a long time I'm wondering what organ is used on some early 80's Sly an Robbie tunes. Or better yet, any ideas how to create it???

It's a very typical kind of organ sound ( sounds hammered ) and heared on songs with Don Carlos, Charlie Chaplin etc.
I have put a link below of Poppa Chaplin's One of a kind, you can hear the organ from the beginning all over.

Any suggestions???

Thanks an guidance!

I bought a 70ths vintage electric organ this summer. The sound is very similar to this organ.

Similar to this http://www.classicauctions.net/default. ... &lotid=486

try before buy, make sure all keys work and that it has lots of switches to modify the sound. make sure it has a an aux out so you can record.

As for VSTs you can try free ones like:

I like also Native Instruments I think a decent organ patch comes with kontakt 5 they also have the vintage organs pack that has some nice sounding organs. IMO they are not 100% spot on for reggae out of the box unless you process them a bit send through distortion and get them where you want with EQ.
