i know this is a bit unrelated but it seems like a good place to ask... <BR> <BR>does anyone know of any GOOD dancehall? im thinking more garage dancehall than RnB poppy dancehall. most of the stuff i hear is crap but there must be something good out there...? <BR> <BR>cheers

i don't really understand what you mean by "garage dancehall". <BR> <BR>R&B / pop influences are often heard in dancehall so you may prefer rasta artists like Capleton and Sizzla or the more hardcore/reality aproach of Bounty Killer <BR> <BR>in any case the bbc 1xtra website allows to listen to the radio shows of Robbo Ranx. these are a good introduction to what is currently regarded as HOT in the dancehall.. see: <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/dancehall/" target="_blank">http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/dancehall/</a>

i would rather say that nowadays mainstream sounds like dancehall. during the last years just about every mtv act seemed to have a dancehall inspired track on their album (ricky martin, shakira, no doubt, missy elliott, wycleff jean,..) <BR>on the other hand it's true that there is a fraction of dancehall artists (spearheaded by a certain elephant man) who mainly concentrate on "dance instruction tunes". their lyrics often consist of not much more than a punch line. recent example: "badman forward badman pullup" by a dancer named Ding Dong. <BR>but there are plenty of artists in dancehall who write tunes about social and political issues from a street level perspective which certainly are not cheesy. listen to Bounty Killer, Tanya Stephens or watch the "Emergency" Video by Vybz Kartel on the bbc 1xtra website: <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/dancehall/" target="_blank">http://www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/dancehall/</a>
