slooowest instrumental 'ambient/spacey' dub

Post by David Che » Tue Mar 04, 2008 11:34 am

Hi all first post!

I'm looking for a sound - the slowest dub you've heard, predominantly instrumental, the earlier the better, minimalist style - not overworked/produced - more contemporary OK too if it fits.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of who might have this style?

Cheers

Davi

Starting with the most prominent figures in 70ies Dub I would recommend to look for Lee Perry productions rather than Dubs from King Tubby/Scientist/Prince Jammy. At Tubby's studio they often mixed rather "dance oriented" faster riddims.

Also Dub version of Roots Reggae albums may be a good place to find particularly slow dubs. The Dub version of Pablo Moses' album "Pave the way" comes to my mind (called "Pave the way Dub").

Two slow dubby vocal tracks are:
- "Weed Specialist" by Two Bad Card (90ies)
- "Spying Glass" by Horace Andy from his album "Dancehall Stylee" (80ies) or the Massive Attack version of the same tune (90ies)

If you want it particularly "minimal" the recent productions by german artists "Rhythm & Sound" may fit your bill. You can listen to snippets from their album "the versions" here.

I hope these are some good starting points.. :snail:
