It's a project started by a Professor of Microbial Genomics together with other scientists. Among other objectives they aim at <BR><FONT COLOR="119911">"bringing an appreciation of science to sections of society who usually ignore or devalue it and an appreciation of reggae and of Jamaican culture to a scientific audience."</FONT> sounds great so far.. but that's not all. <FONT COLOR="ff0000">To give birth to a new musical genre...</FONT> <BR>You, see, <FONT COLOR="ff0000">BIRTH</FONT> is an act of Nature...and it does not take science to take place. Specificly in the world of art - You don't Do art to "give birth" to a 'form of art', but you JUST do art period. Whether it 'deliver' or not something <FONT COLOR="ff0000">new</FONT> ...that's for historians to define later in time, which will be determined based on a set of subjective "facts", comiled by the historians <IMG SRC="http://www.interruptor.ch/cgi-bin/discu ... /happy.gif" ALT=":&#41;"> <BR>Also Charles Darwin was not a scientist. He was a traveler, fantasizer and a day-book writer. I agree Mike. <BR> <BR>Reading between the lines what the good Professor probably does'nt want us to read, he's seems to be an academic trying to get back in touch with his "roots" with roots music, but unable to get out of the habit of taking the stance of a teacher rather than a student &#40;sounds rather like me&#41;. Oh yeah, he's Jamaican - that qualifies him to know more about reggae than anyone else &#40;not&#41;. I wonder if he's managed to isolate and identify that part of his DNA that makes him a reggae man.

Woho! I just listened to his MP3s. Pure garbage - nothing to worry about. If he did'nt say "Darwin" instead of Rastafari he would be working on bringing his style up to scratch.

Oh yeah and 1 more thing: Genomic Dub Collective's tracks seem to feature more panned "pads" than is common in this genre. Such pads &#40;e.g. field chorus effect&#41; have been a feature of cheap house music since the 80s are are'nt very special &#40;FL Studio has loads of them built in to the free version&#41;, but probably sound mind-blowing if you're new to dub &#40;for instance, if you're a lab technician&#41; and you've been blinded by science by the good Professor and his Darwinian blurb. Very cheap effects. Once again, the source defines the perception of the outcome.

Shot myself in the foot, have I? Oh well, never mind. <BR> <BR>Anyway, the irony is that in the music world, Darwinism will see off the Genomic Dub Collective quite effectively, simply because it does'nt sound so hot. I can only imagine the state-fronted BBC showing an interest.

ok, humour? no-problem. <BR>This Darvin's face looks so much like Lev Tolstoy - one of the most boring and overated writer of all times &#40;maybe&#41; ... 'Historians' and 'politicians' as well made him to be a "classic must read" and since then and now-on, kids around the world, who have chosen education to be a high priority of their life, are being stuffed with pounds of reading-paper, filled with long hard to follow endless sentences, and trying to keep their eyes open, suffering their way through "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina".... and then feel guilty, realizing that they must be not so bright genetically, since they can not understand why a "such deep worldly recognized classic literature" has only sleeping pill effect on them. <BR><FONT COLOR="ff0000">Hey kid! That's not your fault!</FONT> Your Brain is just fine. It's simply all because of the book in your hand isn't what they say it is. I personally believe in absolute freedom in art and in general I solute any experimentations, originality, innovations etc... <BR>That's all fine and beautiful. <BR>But on the other hand I am very cynical when I smell pretentiousness.
