Where can I find proper strong raw timbale samples that sound like 70's Augustus/Pablo King Tubby timbale - eg Real Rock/ Cassava
Not processed, but just a starting point - not rolls but single hits .
I have found a few but they are just weedy and dull and unexciting

I agree with that.. Sampling individual hits from drum intros is a very efficient way to get close to the original feel. You can slice a drum intro into all the different hits and play your own rolls.
It's worth going through recordings from the rock Steady era for this type of drum hits too.

Hi
Thanks for the replies
I have actually done this, ripped quite a few, cut n spliced individual hits into rolls to fill the gaps for the time being until I can do it myself (to a certain extent)
I would like to do it it from scratch so i can modify them to use on keyboard drum pads.
Obviously It is a bit of a challenge as success in this genre has so far eluded me!

Yes that is the sound
The free ones i downloaded sound like a pansy hitting a saucepan lid with a wooden spoon
I don't know anything about these drums though, is it the quality of the instrument or is it to do with how hard the rim is wacked in relation to the skin and also how it is recorded?

the drummer on Cassava was Carlton Barrett.

"Carlton used Ludwig drums, and his snare was the popular Supraphonic model, which is made of "ludalloy", an aluminium alloy. The metal construction of the drum, in combination with the extremely high head tension that Carlton preferred, produced a loud, cutting "crack" sound that was a very prominent element of the Wailers' recordings. Carlton almost always left the snare wires of the drum disengaged, making the drum sound very similar to a timbale."

raut, you are most welcome, if you do some experiments, i would love to hear the results.

i bought a £10 timbale off ebay, a few months ago before this thread, i need to get a stand for it. im gonna do some single hit recordings, using four different mics at the same time ,different distances, & align the samples, i will post the results in due course.

Lewis, take your spamming arse, and do one, you toss pot.

a few weeks ago, i was re-visiting a track i did in the 90's,

i knew it used the Roland U110 standard drum kit, which is a great kit in so many ways, used on a lot of hits, all genres.

anyway, i found this torrent on the web, its called "KB6_Archives_7_2017_Relaximus"

it contains a heap of drum machines, too many.

for an old torrent, i was in luck, there were a few, super fast seeders,

in utorrent you can launch a torrent, then turn off all files,

so i did that, then just switched on the drum kits i was after,

i got the Alesis SR16, Roland U110, also Roland 626 & 727 as i remembered this thread, they have interesting timbale samples.

so i attach them, its just4 samples in a zip, 2 hi 2 low.
