envelope circuits?

i don't know if a lot of you build your own circuits for synth stuff or anything, but i'm building both an attack and decay circuit and a portamento circuit and i was wondering if anyone knows if they're going to need something seperate to generate an envelope or if these circuits will do that themselves. i'll be running the signal from an oscillator straight to both of them.
