Night Flight - VSTi String Ensemble Synth - Now Available!

If you ever tried to get that particular string sound on classic 70s reggae tunes like "Two Sevens Clash" by Culture, "Spying Glass" by Horace Andy or "Three Little Birds" and "Night Shift" by Bob and his Wailers you know that you won't succeed with any of the household sample-based string presets found on most synthesizers.
The reason is that a special type of analogue keyboard was used for strings at the time wich was known as string machine or string ensemble.

I have looked into this several times over the last decade and finally jumped into developping a VSTi instrument for the purpose some 3 years ago. After lots of trials, redesigns, refinements and a journey to the Netherlands (buying an original Eminent 310 organ, first commercially available instrument with a string machine on board), here now finally comes Night Flight!

NightFlight VSTi

Hello Daniel and all DDB massive,

THIS ONE is a real gem! i had downloaded it some months ago but never
found the time to really check it out. until last weekend.

i started with the manual first, which is a really nice read and imo that pdf
alone should be worth at least 5 bucks or so -if not more- as it is very
well written with all the information in place and -very interesting- it
provides explanations on how the synthesis of the string machines work.

So after i enjoyed the manual with a good glass of wine i made a stepping
drum loop from vinyl samples, added a bubblin bassline with your twin
bass vsti , some electrapiano, some circuit bent sounds , analogic+bionic
delay FXs and so i had beat and i just started playing the Nightflight over
that beat for a few hours to check the controls the presets and just some
of the possibilities.

So after this extensive test i think Nightflight really can sound
stunningly close to the real thing. i compared it to my elka x705 and i
guess i wont need the elka string section again. i mean i cant tell the
difference really especially if i send it through the leslie, tube amps or just
analog FXs, spring reverb, morley phazer ect. needless to say that you
dont really need any analog stuff, it will sound great just from your DAW.
also it is easy to get sounds that you cant get from old string machines
thanks to all these possibilities for example with the automation of the
EQs, filters, adsr, the tripple ensemble effect ,8 waveforms for the oscs
ect..

the design is also really appealing to me. and although the superscription
"analogue string ensemble"on the GUI could be more accurate, when you
play this vsti you can close your eyes, hear the sound and it really does
sounds like analog. at least that was my impression.

will buy full version as soon as i get me some money, and it will be the
first plug-in i ever bought. i think the price is ridiculous, way to low, but
on the other hand i guess i would not be able to afford to pay more for it.

So Thanks for your effort and dedication this turned out to be a very good
instrument.

Peace Yiannis

Hi Yiannis!
Thanks for your kind words. I am very happy you like the instrument!
Putting the detailed info into the manual also served the purpose of writing down the knowledge gathered during the development of the plugin before I forget the details. So it might be helpful to others as well as myself.
best regards

A beautiful tune inspired by Jean Michel Jarre, created with Synthedit:
