*.ram editor -------*.rmx editor; available? [r

Is anyone aware of software programs of this nature available for free download? Or even availability for sale would be good, but free is always good.

(I believe *.rmx files are protected, so I would imagine it unlikely but surely some sort of editing capabilities are available for *.ram files?)

Come to think of it, converters of these files types to *.mp3, *.wav, *.mpeg or whatever, would be also useful.

Please help.

.ram files are so called "real audio meta" files and they are simple text files with nothing in it except the internet address of the realaudio file (*.ra) you want to point to. use any texteditor like the windows note pad to create a .ram file.

Oh, I didn't know that. In that case do you know of a real audio editor program (or a converter)?

I don't know, I'm still confused. I have a number of *.ram files on my computer, which I can play without being connected to the internet. When I open these files in Wordpad, they are just a bunch of squares and symbols, which isn' a whole lot of use for editing.

Thanks.

this topic was damaged during a system crash.
below follow the messages I could recover.

[what actually happened: a search engine sent a search spider to this site which started to read out all existing and theoretically existing pages in my event calendar of all ages. This created ten-thousands of accesses to this site, all of which where logged to a logfile which grew until it was ten mbytes big and the site accounts disk quota of 25 mbytes was reached.. in the process some of the recent topics on this board were damaged.. a few years back i couldn't imagine that a virtual problem like this could trouble my real life ;-) ]

if it looks something like

["unreadable collection of characters" not possible to recapture]

then it is actually possible that you actually have real audio files, but somebody renamed them from blahblah.ra or blah blah.rm to blahblah.ram and saved them...where ever you've got these files from.
You can try yourself, if youtake .rm file and right-click, rename/change the extension.... it will be still a file as it was, and real-player will open them and play with no problems.
You should not do this, thou...... heh heh
The other possible thing that you have real audio files somewhere on your hard-drive and also have .ram file(s) which are a "sort of play-list" files..well, in a sense, 'cos they are a 'pinters to the audio-files'... but just what Daniel is saying... .ram(s) are not audio- but they are "streaming-play triggers" if you wish to call them this way. .ram(s) are designed for streamin technology... so when you 'open the file' it will go to the address/location and will start stream-play from there....
...
well, just a thoughts for you...

other thing I can't find the converter-program I use to know about....
also there was an application which could convert real audio to wav...which is out of 'service' ..gone ...
popular applications, like soundforge for example can 'create/save as .rm', but it will not open them for editing , nor playing... You only can open them with real-player later.
BTW, the whole Real-poooo technology is/was or what ever sooooo freaking 'closed' ...these aS***s just are so much care so nobody in the world can use it .... and who wants it after all.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
If you really need to get sound from realaudio file, just play it back using real player, get analog out from your soundcard, record it to what ever , then record it back to computer using what ever way you have... the quality here's not an issue here anyway, as I may guess...., actually you may get a better result, if you run the sound through some hardware .... well, this is just an extra thought.... you can't really get any good sounding recording from real audio anyway... (in most cases btw...., 'cos I don't know what exactly sound/recording you are talking about here...)
also, man, in general, real audio is not really a some sort of "kind of audio format"... it a two thing in one in general, again - some type of compression of data plus encoding for streaming... this is about it. Actually it is all about streaming technology to begin with... this is what it was created for, you know... and also therefore there is no such thing as real-audio editor program on the market...well, not that I know of ...,
think of real audio as a postal service, but not as a letter ... , I mean you write/edit the letter using pen and paper, then convert your writing into a 'postal package' .... which is not designed for 'editing' but for delievering.... so if you want to change something in the letter, you need to 'unpack it' then re-write and then pack again .... see what i MEAN ???

blah blah

sorry for not being a real help ,

/respects,
/M Zee

wow, Daniel, this is a strange problem... well, i'm not a spec. in this area....
glad you've got everything running ok....
**********
"["unreadable collection of characters" not possible to recapture]
"
****
this was just a copy-paste from text-file...., which is a bunch of characters... something what you may see if you rename some audio-file to .txt and open in text-editor

later,
/m z
