lazers, beeps, and sirens

I'm trying to come up with my own lazers, beeps, sirens, and basic fx to trip out a mix using synths or instruments on my computer. what do you guys do to get those tripped out fx using your computer.
I use logic and a little ableton live. playing with logic's clavicord i've made some beeps and lazers but the sound is not consistent, sometimes it'll sound like just a plucked string. Im playing with logic's ES-P polyphonic synth right now and im getting some cool siren kind of sounds with a combination of saw tooth and rectangular waves while messing with the speed of the LFO. I'm also using live's operator synth with a sine wave and triangle LFO to get a lazer kind of sound but when i press it quickly it makes this annoying tick.
well thats my experiments, what do you guys do...

As you already wrote many synthesizers can be used to create siren sounds. Just modulate the pitch of a basic waveform with an LFO. You can get an out of the box solution with my Dub Siren vst plugin if you haven't tried that. See the vst download page.
Also percussion synths can be great. I was delighted with the syn-percussion I managed to create with the modular synth on the sonic-core dsp platform (was once called "scope" platform and even earlier "pulsar") You can hear that on the track "inner city dub" on my music page (direct link) starting at 0:44. Sorry for the lo-fi encoded real-audio..

yeah i would love to get a boss pc-2 or something, i love those old school percussion synths. when i tried to make those lazers with the sofware synth on logic or live i always got these clicks at first though. i tried slowing the attack of the waves and other things, but that didn't work. am i using the wrong waves? .im on mac os-x so those plugins wont work for me.
what else do you guys make for sound fx?

That's strange.. A slow attack at the beginning of the note should really eliminate all clicks. Last time I head a similar problem was when programming a synth bass sound. In that case the clicks happened because of overlapping notes (sloppy keyboard playing..). Setting the sound to mono instead of poly and increasing the envelope release parameter (eliminates clicks at the end of the note) helped. Maybe you could try that too. Also it might be possible that your sound level in the attack phase is too high. This might result in digital clipping somewhere along the signal path.

Hey, i ve got a Boss PC-2 Percussion Synthesizer !
Well actually its not mine, my brother bought it, cause i could not
afford it, so i talked him into buying it.. But still i use it alot and
i really likes it.. :D

Its really cool for blips, beeps and siren-like sounds, although IMO a
Synare 3 would be the best tool for these kind of sounds..
Unfortunately a Synare is also too expensive for me! but one day, maybe...........................

Then there are also some other options one should consider:
-the Amdek(kit company owned by Roland) PCK-100 kit wich is a clone of the Boss PC-2
-various Coron Drumsynths
-Synare Synth DIY Kit that i found on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Synare-Synth-DIY-Ki ... 286.c0.m14

Anyway, if i find the time, i will make a video of my Boss PC-2. i wanted to that for quite a while now...

Peace yianni

Thanks for posting the links ocoughi.
I asked my wife if she could build a pck100, but then I discovered the Ds7 and Ds8 clones. They look and sound great too !

Thanks!
I've been trying to find out the name of that for ages. I was in a band where the keyboard player had one and I banged it in one song - it was a great bleeper.
It seems to be a PC2 (not 21).
