I've been making dub on Logic recently... but not in real-time. What's all your opinions on sequencing dub (with automations etc), rather than 'playing' it?

Personally I think 'real', live dubbing is better, but if the end result sounds sweet, is there a problem? (I have real issues with operating software effects in real time with a mouse)
I think whatever works for you is fine.
Most of what I do is not 'live' dubbing (although my stuff is more dub centered than 'pure' dub sounding (however you would define that)).
For instance, in Cubase SX, once I tweak with the mouse a delay time to what sounds right, everything else I do with the delay I draw in on the automation lines. And I feel perfectly fine doing it. I can understand why some prefer using control rotaries or sliders, but I don't use them.
Doing it quickly (or 'live') and not getting hung up on every nuance and whether its right can of course yield natural and exciting results you wouldn't otherwise get (a mix perfomance), capturing unique moments of inspiration, just like you might get stuff in a music jam you wouldn't get if you mapped it all out. But on the other hand there would be a lot of good music missing in the world if there wasn't pre-meditation and careful tweaking, I like to make well structured tracks that have a muscial 'narrative', and that won't come from jamming a mix (although the last thing I did was an on the instance thing, and it turned out quite pleasing to me)
Do what you want I say, and if it ends up sounding good then it is good.
No rules and no one way you have to do it.
Well, here's what I've been doing...

http://www.stirlingengine.co.uk/taxidub
http://www.stirlingengine.co.uk/dubplat
http://www.stirlingengine.co.uk/politicaldub

I've liked the idea of 'dubbing' movies recently, so that's what I've done. Everything is sequenced... there's no live tweeking, but I did play all the instruments in live (except midi organs and drums).

Let me know what you think...

Just thought it might not be allowed to post your music in here. If not apologies, and feel free to delete.
