spring and tape echo=humm problems?
Greatings,
Seems like my RE201(tape echo) and my KORG GR1(spring reverb) are not friends!?
when the power of the 201 is ON, there is Humm in the Korg. When at OFF, absolutly nothing... i ungrounded all i could except the jacks. The only way to have no humm is to unplug the input jack of the korg.
the korg have two output levels; direct and reverb, the humm is only in the reverbered signal.
should i unground directly the spring tanks? inside the box?
maybe it's a balanced/unbalanced problem somewhere? i'll dig this direction...
Anyone have some tricks?
Peace&dub

Greetz,
could you tell us how you solve this issue (I'm sure you will),
would appreciate that very much.
These transducers seem to be very sensible, one of mine is catching humm from the dimmer of the lamp standing near to it - very annoying, but on the other hand a nice effekt to play with.
The other one has no grounding and is dead silent...

I Got a GR1 and the same problem.
For me i have to put it somewhere alone because in my rack stucked to other machines the metal body of the Korg transmits the vibrations of transfos to the spring tank.
I think that's why it comes only on the reverb signal.
When I extract it and put it away from other machines i get no problem, maybe a very far noise.
I've been thinking about isolate the ears of the body from the rack(with rubber) and let spaces between machines but I'm not sure it will works.
Because when i got it in hands I get no noise. The noise starts when I begin to put the Korg into the rack even if the ears are not screwed.
Maybe a magnetic field problem?
The only solution i see is a separated rack 1U to put it alone.I think I'm gonna try those builded in plastic and cloth to reduce the transmissions of vibrations.
Would you try it and let me know if it's the same on your gear?

yes it's exactly the same problem! i didn't solved it except the way you said; putting this far away from other devices....and...buying another spring reverb...a much better one with accutronics type 9 tank. now i know that this korg is no good for dubbing (from my personal point of view...)....i'm thinking of selling it soon...
PS: you did a post about the korg on AF ?
Peace.
