Henrik,
are you talking about something REALLY new... or something what's relatively old ???
Sounds like I've heard about this kinda' long time ago..... and we are still in mp3-dominating internet music world...
any link / site to check out?

To me there will be never the answer to the question: "How on earth did it happend? When mp3 format came out, I've checked it out, converted few of my wav(s), listened to it... and said to myself: "This Is Crap" .... and I was absolutely sure that this kind of "format" will never becom as actuall "recordings distribution" format, simply because (I thought) consumer will never accept such bad sound quality. I thought this will be just used for internet as preview or simply to add some multimedia content for website etc... maybe for talk radio or news etc...
And look where we are now. If you told me back then, that there'll be big-name commercially mass production of portable mp3-players (100-200-300 bucks!!!!) and people will buy them like crazy (AND ACTUALLY USE!!!)-- I would say - you are mad man and this is nonsens.
Well, I was wrong. Music sounds like "sh" around us and nobody notice it anymore. We have now the whole 'generation' of young music-fans who heard their idol's songs for the first time as mp3-file on their computer, so they even have no idea how it should sound...nor they give a sh*t.
Includin' FM-radio , radio-stations also now play mp3s instead of lps or CDs....(why bother...it's cheaper, less space, less equipment, less electric bills....just loptops, select file and click. I use like listening FM radio while driving.... now I've noticed I can't stand the sound of it longer than 10 miles of driving...

All I can say: DO NOT SELL you old plastic records. You never know what hidden value they may have in the future "digital revolution" world. Maybe people wake up some day ... LOL

/respects,
/MZ aka Dr. ZEE

some statements i found regarding wma:
"Windows Media Audio (WMA) is Windows own file format for compressed audio. Claims competitive sound quality at lower bitrates. A part of Microsoft's Windows Media audio and video software, included with the Windows Media Player software. Optional copyright protection is included in the WMA code, allowing the owner to restrict the use of protected material."

i have no experience with this format myself.

regarding quality: i'm not surprised most people don't care about the quality loss that comes with compression. few people buy speakers and amplifiers which actually allow to hear a difference. how many people do setup their speakers in impossible positions, so they will never hear any stereo effect? i guess about 70%..
