When people sell used equipment they sometimes say it was in a "smoke free environment". What does licking chalice in the studio do to my equipment? I dont care about my lungs, but if it fucks up my equipment i'll go to another room to burn the herb.

Smoke particles will stick to the faders on your desk and these will wear of faster. (I'm sure some
dope head will now come up and say the ganja smoke is what conserves his faders for
eternity ;-) )

and err.. i think you should care about your lungs
as well..

the general thought from pro-audio repair personnel is that the killers of any audio equipment are: smoke, dust and excessive heat.
cigarette smoke has been found to react chemically with electronic components and cause irreversible changes. not good for your audio equipment! i was working on a project in the studio of a major ganja imbiber - there were about 3 (!) expensive dat machines on 'tilt' there & he later had to shell out big bucks for cleaning & service of his console. by all accounts smoking, certainly of ganja, was banned in king tubby's studio.
it is recommended to puff outside, if you must.
keep on dubbing,
ryan
www.twilightcircus.com

eating it can be better anyway. You can eat a lot more than you can smoke, as the effect gradually builds up until you'll be sat in the corner drooling like a maniac and twitching.

Ganja can be inspiration in itself, but it is mainly a medium to higher inspiration. Ofcourse, there are numerous tributes to this herbal chariot.
But i think this discussion is two-fold.
King Tubby style is very different than Lee Perry.

King Tubby was an engineer and had intimate knowledge of how his equipment functioned and they were his creation so he treated them like his children.
Lee Perry knew generally how things worked but he was more interested in treating the machines like an extension of his own body. So he felt they needed a good smoke now and again.

Using a Chalice or bong usually takes most of the toxins and residue that can damage stuff. Ciggerettes are far more dangerous as they are sprayed with lots of chemicals and its resin is coarse like sandpaper. Ganja resin on the other hand is more oily and thus it can help people with asthma - the phlegm doesn't stick to the lung walls as much. Ofcourse, there is chemikalli weed too, but that is anotha story.

Ideally, two rooms would be the best. One with hightech, digital, circuit-based equipment - where you can have a clinical approach...like a de-static and lint removal machine at the door.
The other room with transister based stuff, with analogue equipment, and generally stuff you can be ruff and tuff with. Yeah that would be the best studio. atleast my dream creation place.

The worst thing is ashes in your faders! Don´t mix and smoke! Suggestion: mixing/producing - no smoking, listen - smoke if you want.

Smoke in the studio is not good for the equipment, and smoking is bad for the lungs. I think I'll leave it at that. Adults can make their own decisions.

Jah is God (like in Jah'oh'viah), check out Psalm 68! The jews had many names for God, including Jah.

Many things come from the earth. Cyanide, arsenic, tar, and of course ganja.

THC prevent the brain from making the right connection with the right cells, which means that smoking pot don't really alter your perceptions, it only makes your neuro-transmiters work slower or not work at all.

The inspiration that ganja brings (or seems to bring, because we know that in fact its mostly a placebo effect) is already in you. All you have to do is to work hard enough to bring it out to the console in a natural way.

Dub is a science, and a scientist should not alter his perceptions.

Dub is a teacher, and a teacher should stay drug-free.

Finally, dub is a preacher, and Jah tells us not to alter our body (it's in the Book) and to stay sober. Jah made your brain like that, so if it's not broken, don't fix it!

Respect to all massives worldwide!
-g

Sound being removed of a mix, delayed and re-applied several times in the mix at a fixed rate. D'you need drugs to understand that?

But thanx for the advice, next time I'm offered a joint I'll politly reply: "My sense of time and space is pretty wicked already. No thanks."

P.-S. Herb will not get you closer to God, only Jesus will. Iesous Cristos is Jah.

P.P.-S. Check out some of my mixes at http://www.mp3.com/ode sounds like pop to you?

just a likkle story about a man I went to see last Friday, called lee "scratch" perry. now Mr scratch is now a shadow of his former self he ranted and raved on stage cursing locks, Jamaica and everything I am sure he once held precious. Do you think he went that crazy because of some sort of syndrome? or do you think it was the half ounce of collie he consumed a day? In reality Ganja is a drug, and that's is exactly what it does, it alters perceptions. We do not need to be high 24/7. There is nothing wrong with relaxation and chilling out, because Jah wants us to be happy
and I agree collie is a very good way of unwinding, but beware of spending so much time high that being down seems not as good. Life and consciousness is a precious gift, so I must try and respect it
one love
iron I

I just can't come to terms with the shit some people come out with...I myself smoke cannabis, but I'm not gonna try and justify it by saying "Jah created it" or any such crap. I never heard an alcholic praising Jaysis for the creation of Barley and Yeast. I think Lee Perry's complete insanity is more to do with drinking the alchol for cleaning the tape machine and the like and other personal reasons. Why do people say things like

"Herb gets you closer to god. If you arent down with that you should be mixing some pop music, like some boy bands or something" -
we all know that great boy band the Roots Radics
mixed by King Tubby, yeah pop music in its greatest form....(okay)....

the only way to get closer to God is through Jesus.....that's so depressing.

Music is the closest I've ever come to religion.

When I hear the Reggae music....words can't describe it, but I might as well try, why not? Not as if anyone will reply...

If I hear the live version of Burial with the Speech Peter Tosh did, no matter WHAT, I'm gonna start smiling....(check out the quote from the speech; "all the war on the earth and Jesus can't do a thing about them that grass can't do"...)

(little side note: Peter Tosh saays "Jamaica is one of the richest west indies countries in the world". Is this a stupid thing to say? Would he have said it if he didn't smoke cannabis? Would he have made the same quality of music without cannabis? answers on a postcard to bin_ez@hotmail.com)

The Micheal Talbot Affair.....takes me places the Bible can't.

anyway I've run out of inspiration....I need another joint......hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
oh, the irony.

Feel free to e-mail me with tirades, rants, character assassinations, bible transcripts, free songs, micellaneous bullness and of course.......

Yeah, about that "cheating" thing.....A friend of mine made the point that if you're stoned, then the ideas and perceptions you are having are not real but, when is something defined as real?
Let's say, you see things a certain way when you're hungry, after you eat, you'll no longer be hungry you'll see things a different way, so which way is real? Sometimes you just see things from another perspective, that's life.
Why would you let everyday you live be defined by something which may or may not happen, by events which have yet to take place, which make no sense? Just live "a good, good life and be free".....Peter Tosh....

Lee Scratch Perry is not crazy. Maybe ctazy like a fox. He may be bitter about some things to be sure but God has given him 2nd, 3rd and 4th chances and I bet he has got alot to be happy about. Good lucky Mr Perry won a Grammy last year
(in reggae of all things) for playing a very good part in the ark. I heard he stopped smoking herb and he quit drinking some time ago. Whatever way he goes I hope he is happy, because he makes my ears and brain happy. Give Thanks!

yeah enough of the moralising disguised as studio advice

if it works for you fine, if it dont fine

personally I like to listen afterwards on it and some times I'll do some stuff on it but I find that I will often end up where I started, having tried about 20 diff things and trashed them.

a tale i read by phil brown, while recording burnin' was while doing an edit on the mulitrack master of i shot the sherrif, he was so damn high from the wailers' huge joints, that with the joint hanging out of his mouth, the cherry dropped right on the tape, and fried about a bar. he had to do some quick (stoned) thinking and fancy editing real fast. scary, yes but a damn fine album, engineered by a stoned white englishman.
