difference in sound betwen the 2 HH tape echos???

is there a big sound difference between the two models of HH
the one with the sliding head wich u move from the front panel
and the other one who wrks like the most with different fixed heads..
would u say the one with the fixed heads is not really special while the sliding one is?
or can one archive same sounds out of both, i heared they should be interesting in sound.
