delay reverb echo for vinyl dj mixing

Post by dubpunk66 » Tue Mar 12, 2019 2:30 pm

HI All at dub discussion , could somebody please give me some advice as to my best option to add some delay reverb echo to my vinyl only mixing . I have no experience with effects at all , i have 2 Technics 1210s an ecler nuo 2 channel mixer- it does have send ,return, fx on rear and rokit krk g6 active monitors .I have been looking on the web ,but no clear info on just for mixing vinyl records , i mix a lot of dub techno ,reggae and dubby tracks and would like something to help with transitions between different styles of music .I have been looking at the boss de 20 space echo pedal ,which is just about in my price range £200 , would this be worth getting for what i want or can anybody suggest any better ideas , i like the idea of the boss as its all in one unit and please correct me if i am wrong but i read the effects become part of the music rather than sitting on top .Just looking for something simple to start with ,as mixing is hard enough on its own .many thanks in advance .dubpunk66

hey dubpunk66,

i looked at the manual for your mixer, on both phono channels 1+2 you have a FX send knob, that will go to the "fx send" on the back of your mixer, feed that send to the inputs on the boss re20

the outputs of the boss re20, i personally, would connect to the line inputs of your 3rd channel, that way you can add effect, no matter the crossfader position, just the channel 3 level knob.

in this way you can have the level knob of effect to the mix at zero, Pre fade listen to channel 3 in your headphones, send a short sharp blast, via the effect send - to the re20, adjust effect if necessary, then fade it into your mix with the channel 3 level control.

the re20 has a "direct switch" on its rear, in the above configuration, you want this "off" position.

the re20 has the tap tempo function, which will help you, to get your delay in time with your music, this might take some practice if you require shorter than a quarter note delay. see manual pages 14-18.

i would also invest in a boss ev5 expression pedal, you can assign the intensity "feedback" to this pedal, which gives a foot something to do, & a hand one less task.

i think it sounds okay

Hi , Artichoke Soundclash , that is exactly the info i was looking for ,thanks for that .Would you happen to know if i would need a di box to change the instrument level to line level , as i have read conflicting things, some info recommends using the di box as the signal is low from the pedal to mixer and other info says you do not need it as it works ok ---https://www.soundonsound.com/sound-advi ... edal----.I am just a bit apprehensive as i have no experience using effects , but i need to just buy the pedal and have a go by trial and error ,all the best dubpunk66.

the manual says it accepts both line or mic input. so it seems un-necessary.
