can anyone suggest some raw tape recorders? especially ones with variable speeds?

or do you mean just anything you can turn into tape-delay machine? <BR>In that case any deck with three head and 'monitor out' ... well, with speed (pitch) control (not many cassette deck have it, but many older reel-to-reel do). What ever deck you can find and afford...don't mater much what kind, really ..... some noise here and there anyway... and actual rec.quality isn't really an issue (well up to the point, you know) (unless you want to spend some hi-cash for a pro-recorder, over $1k or so.... I would not do that.... better buy yourself couple of used good old Rolands <IMG SRC="
http://www.interruptor.ch/cgi-bin/discu ... /happy.gif" ALT=":)"> <BR> <BR>For making your own " tape-delay machine" I'd say going after open reel-to-reel w/3heads is the way to go...just makes sense, 'cos you have your hands on tape.... you can actually re-locate heads (if you 've got a good electro-mechanics mind and hand)... or simply pull the tape between rec and play heads and you've got the delay time variable ..... also fun to mess with etc...
