I'm attempting to build my own spring reverb unit for dub effects...I wanna stick it through the mixing desk for live but also use it at home for digi...so far I've decided to use 3 or 4 different lengths of springs to create a multi- dimentional timbre...and I know that I need to use an input transducer at one end and a n output transducer at the other...I have NO electronics experience so can anyone tell me what transducers to use!? also how do I connect the springs that are different lengths to the transducers at each end...I have only managed to find diagrams of units that are using springs that are the same length....I plan to house the whole thing in plastic drainpipe and add a step up transformer to boost the volume...CAN ANYONE HELP OR GIVE ADVICE!!!! I'm beginning to lose hope

First of all: Find any spring reverb tank (old part from amp or what ever/working on not ... does not matter) ...and look at it. Forget about seeing pictures on the net or diagrams. You Gotta see, touch and smell the actual thing first, ....
then you may think again about actually making one yourself
if then you still wish to build your own spring-tank.... well...then I don't know what to tell you... go for it...heh heh ...

now next thing. if you also wish to actually make a unit with preamp, mix/reverb level, output level, and maybe some eq...then with having NO electronics experience ..I'd say - forget it. But you can learn if you have time and energy.
But to learn you gotta get some basics knowledge and then get some already existing parts, spring tank, maybe try using existing preamp and play around.... that's how you lear thing ... then you may get into actually making your own unit...if you still want to...

/respects
/Mike Zee aka Dr ZEE
ZDL

MotorMind, what do you mean by "proper tank"?
In respect to DUB-production ...in general, there's no such thing as "proper" tank. It's like anything goes...well, sort of Different tank - different effect sound...

oh, about 'cost'
You can get one for free finding an old broken guitar amp or parts of organ with spring tank at junk yard. Or you can find a tank on e-bay... seen some for 10-20 bucks or what have you. Some tanks go pretty high in price, but the reason for this usually if the tank is rare and is an original part of some vintage guitar amp which is in high regards...
Spring reverb tanks are items for guitar players .... Here's example of conversation: Reverb Tank: 2 vs. 3 springs? at FDP forum, you see ? ;)

/respects
