nice find.. <BR> <BR>here is a link to <A HREF="http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/ ... html">some reviews at HarmonyCentral</A> <BR>and a <A HREF="http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/1162/">description &#43; review</A> at effectsdatabase.com <BR> <BR>The second review at effectsdatabase says it's a good chorus for bass due to it's clean sound. analog choruses seem to be warmer but tend to turn bass into mud. <BR> <BR><IMG SRC="http://www.interruptor.ch/cgi-bin/discu ... 05/762.jpg" ALT="roland dc-50">

Roland DC-50 Digital Chorus - in the container

yes thats it <IMG SRC="http://www.interruptor.ch/cgi-bin/discu ... /happy.gif" ALT=":&#41;"> ,... the chorus is "light" <BR>and air-like, the hall is also not to the <BR>"heavy" side, maybe becourse its early 12 <BR>bit digital or so, they might have choosen <BR>a moderate expression, however a nice and <BR>noisy self-repeating sound apears when the <BR>revearb is pushed hard,.. :-&#41;&#41;&#41;

Roland DC-50 Digital Chorus - in the container

the chorus is strange, turns a clean piano <BR>into a detuned wild-west salon-piano :-&#41; <BR> <BR>Delay-lenght being fixed sucks the most <BR> <BR>The chorus is very special, the delay/hall <BR>is most interesting as special effect when <BR>pushed into into self-oscillation <BR> <BR>If for 500 euro I would definately sell :-&#41; <BR> <BR>Guess an emulator-x / 1820m would improve <BR>my sonic arsenal way better LOL <BR> <BR>HM

Roland DC-50 Digital Chorus - in the container

HM, this is really more like a museam item than 'useful' gear. And the price on it will go up as time goes by <IMG SRC="http://www.interruptor.ch/cgi-bin/discu ... /happy.gif" ALT=":&#41;">.... but you keep it rather under the glass hood, than being plugged somewhere in your production studio ... ;-&#41; <BR> <BR>/repects, <BR>/dr ZEE

Yes I agree, but i sure looks good when <BR>I make a stack with RE-201, RE-150, DC-50, <BR>and spring-king on the top :-&#41; ,... ha ha <BR> <BR>throwing things out is cool I discovered, <BR>feels like I owns the gear, not oposite, <BR>however this one might be sold,... later <BR> <BR>HM :-&#41;

Roland DC-50 Digital Chorus - in the container

my advice : open it up and see if you can find plastic screws used by services technicians .You can make it sound way better .I always do that with analog gear &#40; e1005 /stage echo / vintage synths &#41; .i even put an external pot on an old casio keyboard to turn off the hihats on the drum presets .of course be careful not to f### it .

DC-50 not 12 bit

Post by 68000 » Mon Oct 31, 2011 9:50 pm

The DC-50 is from 1976 and is a BBD analog machine. So please dont think it's a 12-bit! machine. The chorus is very near identical to the pedal CE-1 from the same time, but not exatcly the same.

The sound of the DC is amasing. It's one of the best BBD delay and chorus devices around. It was an expensive studio effects that was only in production for a very limited time. Partly due to Roland had not at the time made them self a name in high end effects devices. The first Space Echo RE-200 was also only on the market for a year.

Later Roland gained a reputation with the next Space Echo the RE-201.

The name Digital on the front is only a buzz word meant to sell the machine. Digital was a near unknow thing in 1976 so using a fresh word like this can be compared to the later RSS and COSM and so one.

Due to the amasing sound and the rarity of the DC-50 it is now a very sought after machine.
