DUB DISCUSSION BOARD

Jah bless this board! I'm so glad I found it.

I have this itch. It's a Dub itch. I have to make Dub! I am really interested in remixing existing tracks into Dub.

Now I need a mixer and a FX processor. Is 12 channels enough? There is a YAMAHA MG124C on sale for $100 at the nearby music store. Will that work? Or should I look for a mixer with more channels? Keep in mind that I'm a noob... Also, is there anything else I would need?

I plan on recording everything into my computer using Adobe Audition 3. I also have a Korg ESX-1 sampler that I can use whenever.

Any suggestions to get me started I would be most grateful.

How are you going to play back the multiple tracks of your tune?
Do you have a PC or a Taperecorder with multiple outputs?
How many outputs do you have?

I think 12 channels are great for a beginner. I am a beginner, i have 12
channels, and its real fun to me. I often use 8 for the multiple outputs of
my soundcard and 2+2(stereo channels) as effect returns.. 100$ for the
YAMAHA MG124C is a good deal too. You should get at least 2 FX's units
if you want some serious dub action with a variety of different effects
imho. Maybe one multieffect processor and one analog delay or spring
reverb? Or phaser? its up to you..

I have not worked with a hardware sampler yet, but i think it must be
great to be able to save all kind of wicked sounds, so that you can use
them in your live dubbing process. That way you can have all kind of
sirens or natural sounds or whatever you want..

I'm still looking into that. I have a nice PC, but I need to get a sound card with multiple outputs... or ... I could also use my DJ mixer as another mixer. Its a digital Denon X1500 4 channel mixer with a coaxil output. I think that would work?

I dont think that would work.. Or at least i dont know how it could work....
