Delay time

Post by d_b » Mon Jul 10, 2006 3:24 pm

i recently found my refuge in dub; being a nerd i decided to first use a calculator...

after some investigation i found the most pleasing results with 53% swing on percussion and 78.5% delay time for off-beat repeats. the reciprocate 127.5% also works.

does anyone know how these ratios came to be?! i know it's blasphemy to drop science on dub, i just can't sleep

interesting approach

.. not blasphemy at all .. dub is about individual aproach

i am unsure what you mean by 53% swing etc... if you are referring to timing, then it is of course all relative to song tempo

dont get too caught up in numbers though.. the whole is always greater than the sum of the parts

For me, I always find it better to set delay times for dub by ear - beat synced delays rarely sound right to me on dub. What %'s my settings come out as I have no idea - I like the idea that it won't be exactly the same each time.
