IS CALREC MINIMIXER MK2 GOOD FOR MIXING A REGGAE ALBUM?

mixer doesn't make a great reggae album...but it might be inspiring having lots of pots and faders to tweak
how many tracks does it have? and how many tracks does your project need?
and how about Aux sends? do you need at least 3 or 4 (phaser, delay, reverb, flanger)
think about it before buying something it won't fit your expectations

life was easier with tapes
Uhm yeah, have to disagree a little bit leitmo, sorry.. If you want to make a GREAT reggae album you really can use (or actually NEED) a VERY good mixer.. Also you dont need 4 Auxes.. 4 Auxes are good if you are buying a board strictly for dubbing but still you dont really need them. Anyway i have heard very good things about calrec minimixers, but i have not had one infront of me yet to play with.. their expensive and way out of my economical range.. So i am also not the person to tell you about this one sorry.. IMO best thing you can do is trust your ears and your taste.. get it for a tryout for some days, work with it, check how it sounds, if you like the preamps, if the EQs can give you the right reggae frequencies(compare to your favourite Prince Lincoln Record ect..).. Just try to record something through it and tweak it to make it sound like the music you want to do. and just see if you feel its the right thing.

ha again imanouel and jahnice!
i always say that music is not the gear you use but the feeling you have.
Great records have been mixed through midpriced mixers and viceversa.
Lee Perry never used "Hi End" gear and his productions were great, King Tubby built his own gear but was not Hi End.
I'm agree with you that it would be great to give the Calrec a try for a few days, just to be sure if fit your needs and you like the sound. You'll sound like your favorite Prince Lincoln record if you use the same mic, same Preamps, same mixer, same reel to reel recorder, etc...
Just my two cents.

can NOT get the sound of the best Prince Lincoln & the Rasses,Steel Pulse
or Aswad (which are his inspirations) records with a half-ass mixer! I Say
NO WAY.. You need a mixer that is great for reggae! Also if you want
great reggae sound, you dont want a mixer with (for example)a
low EQ @ 125Hz, its better to have it @ 80Hz no???
You can make great music with ANY gear (totaly agree with you), but you
it will be difficult (uhm mission impossible for me)to get the near-perfect
warm sound off the forementioned artists! Anyway maybe its just an
illusion of mine

make great music with it, but cant make the sound of these artists.
Still nice to debate on these issues with you leitmo
