build a cheap dub siren

Post by isistowers » Mon Jan 31, 2011 8:18 pm

Hi, since completing the brilliant synare clone outlined in an earlier thread, ive played around customising a cheap velleman siren kit. Cost me about 25 quid including knobs n enclosure. It sounds proper with abit of delay.

Ive outlined the steps at my blog

isistowers.blogspot.com

And added samples. Hope it helps someone out there. Peace.

Thank you for your positve comments. I'm really pleased with the results. To clarify your questions.

Both knobs are used to control the pitch of the siren ocillations, controlled by the three swtiches.

The black knob is a direct replacement for the pcb mounted RV1 220k included in the kit. This knob is the main pitch control.

The red knob I added later off the cuff and replaces the standard R3 100k resistor. This knob also controls pitch but makes the sirens super high pitch, just a little tweak, I may experiement with this down the line.

I'll be pleased to see what you come up with.

Hey I build this kit too. How exactly did you wire the jack and the 3 switches replacing the dipswitch?

regards, Franz
