Hoester Sound System - Babylon (Versions)

Post by Hoester » Sat May 24, 2003 12:57 pm

Dear Dub massive,

It has been quite around Hoester Sound System the last months. This is over now! I did work on some cuts the last time and right now I am in the final mixing of a brand new track.
However, I promised to release some Dub versions of my 2002 track 'Babylon' and now the first version is available on different mp3 hosts: 'Babylon SF Dub' is a sci-fi dancehall version of 'Babylon' with weird delay and phasing.
Stream or download it for free from your favorite mp3 label. Links are provided here:
http://www.hoester.com/song.php?song=19

As usual your feedback (positive or negative) is appreciated.

Respect,
Hoester
http://www.hoester.com

NICE even goes nicely through cheap audio-technica ATN-M3X twenty bucks headphones...
on "negative" point? heh heh, let's see...hmmmmmmmmm, nothing I could really hit you with. Delays are cool. Perfection in delay-timing? Maybe? I don't know. When everything in dub track is perfect timing-wise ... this gives me some sort of double feeling. I'm not sure how to explain this. I like some 'unpredictable un-perfections' going through the dub-tracks.

Question: Does 'dub-transformation' of 'Babylon' word into 'Blah-Blah-Blah-blah--lah -ah' have special and intentional meaning? Or is it just a dub-accident?

good work,
/respects
/Mike Zee, aka DrZEE
z-d-l

Thanks Dr. Zee,

Regarding your question: It was not intended to let this 'Babylon' preacher sample lead into 'blah blah'. In fact I just now realised it for the first time only because you mentioned it! Perhaps some unknown entity inspired myself on a higher level? Heh heh! But it DOES fit into the context, doesn't it? However, it was intended to have some kind of destructional element in the sample. Thus I added distortion to the delay loop.

For sure you are right mentioning that the delay timing is *too* perfect. At the end of the day I am mostly working with digital machines during the production process and these bloody machines usually do not make failures. Sometimes I manually add some 'unperfections', random velocity on the drums for example. Anyway I must agree, that the over-perfect timing is a problem...

Many thanks for your feedback,
Hoester

great song indeed !
great warm bouncing and rolling vibe..

my only advice would be: use "real" drums ,or at least filter the drum track with a slight lowpass ,some lukewarm saturation and reverb..

the track r0xx nonetheless , can I play it in my soundsystem?

big up and Jah bless

by the way , the whole "babylon" voice sample with the progressive echo-highpass-distortion is a hit, how did you achieve it? What kind of gear do you have?

thnx in advance
