Which MAC plugins can replace the Interruptor VST plugins?

Post by interruptor » Tue Jun 17, 2008 10:07 pm

edited Feb 2011: A new way of running PC VSTs on OSX is discussed over here
===================================================================

More than half of the messages I receive from readers of this site are requests to provide mac versions of my plugins. Unfortunately I neither have the time nor the knowledge to do that.
A particularly interesting message arrived today (cited below). Apart from pointing out his generosity by stating that he "was actually thinking about sending a donation" (That surely helps to pay the rent :-D) this person asked for mac plugins that could replace my delay plugins. Since I don't use a mac I would like to pass this question on to you dear readers.. Does anybody have suggestions?
Hey Mr. Interruptor!

I mainly make more house oriented stuff but I tend to use some dub influences now and than.
Anyways, I while ago i discovered your analogic and bionic delay vst's which I love!! I was actually thinking about sending you a donation (although I don't have a clue how paypal works..).
The thing is now, I switched to a mac osx system in my studio and now I can't use your beloved vst's anymore. I have a shitload of other delay vst's but they don't do it for me.
So now my question is; Do you know if there are mac based delay vst's which sound and pretty much work the same as yours? If not, are you planning on building vst's for mac??
Thanks man!! Peace out

As responses have not been overwhelmingly numerous :-| I'd like to add that a good source for information about plugins is kvraudio.com.

The following site search lists about 20 free delay plugins for the mac:
http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode=re ... =1&rpp=100

Thereof the following may be helpful for dub excursions on a mac:

mda dubdelay
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/783.html

Smart Electronix analogdelay
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/731.html

TAL-dub
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2854.html

Even more results are obtained when searching for mac compatible payware delay plugins:

VST support for OS X

Post by Synthmax » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:13 pm

Hey. I can help you port plug-in's for os x. please look at Koblo.com I'm doing a free DAW for OS X and Windows. It's open source and it has plug-in support.
If you are interested you can find the source code at http://github.com/koblo/

C++ code and graphics is all it takes to support VST AU and RTAS
I manage and develop Koblo.com a social network dedicated to music creation

Hi! Thanks for your feedback.. In fact my problem is that my plugs are created with Synthedit (synthedit.com) so there is no C++ involved. The first step for me would therefore be to actually start coding audio software in C++. So far I did not get beyond a very basic plugin using the VST developers toolkit. One bright day when I have a lot of time I may actually delve into this.
Your project Koblo seems very interesting. Bulding a whole DAW from scratch.. Now that's a gigantic endeavor! I wish you all the best

A little caveat on that, there is unfortunately no Universal Binary version so it won't work on any of the current range of Macs.

FXpansion do vst to rtas and au software. Basically just have to bring up the software and then it 'wraps' the plugin and makes it compatible to use with rtas and audio unit formats. You can buy it here:

RTAS: http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=15

AU: http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=5

@shitrecords:

Before buying the FXpansion wrapper be aware that it will not work to use the plugins on this site on a Mac. See the FAQ:
http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=15&tab=64#166
Can I use PC plug-ins on a Mac, or vice versa?

No. Mac VSTs work on a Mac, PC VSTs on a PC.

To reiterate Interruptor's point:
Those VST to AU wrappers as far as I can tell are largely pointless, at least with Intel Macs. You have to use a MAC version of a VST to convert it to AU - and I don't know of any Mac VSTs that don't also come in a straight AU version anyway.
The wrapper will not make a Windows VST work on a Mac.

Man...I would pay a good amount to have access to Bionic Delay on Cubase 6 running OSX. Been part of my music for years and can't use it any more. :(

Simply me best delay ever. Tried them all including Echofarm TDM, Echoboy etc...
Thanks so much for giving it to us.

Martin from Montréal.
