How to get a classic reggae/dub skank in a software ?

Post by Ennayeh » Sun Aug 04, 2013 5:20 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a software/synth preset that achieves this type of classic skank sound : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbae1UT4Qus

altought I've heard it in a lot of reggae/dub productions, I've never found in any synth software I use (Native instruments, ableton instruments, ...).

Could someone please help me ? I'm sure the answer will be easy for many of you, but that would be a great help for me !!!

Many thanks in advance !

its all about simulating tape. Send piano through EQ -> tube dist -> EQ.

Use first EQ to boost mid area until you get that agressive reggae sound. Use 2nd EQ to tame what you just did a bit so its not to hard on ears.

To get a real good classic reggae sound you want to layer with guitar and its hard to achieve with software but you can get ok results with proper vst/sample and proper processing
