Lee Perry complete discography

Post by bin_ez » Tue Feb 25, 2003 2:04 am

I typed all this out some time ago for personal use. I might as well share it with any of you guys who might ever find the need for such a thing.

I don't think it is actually complete, but it's too complicated for me. It's quite close, and if any of you actually have all these songs, I'd be very impressed (some of them are probably quite shite, indeed).

Here we go

wow, bin_ez, man - some work

yeah, I wish to know a one single person on earth who has the complete collection. no way possible...

ok, since this is something like a 'biblical content', heh heh, let me make a little note on details about 'upsetter in dub' compilation.
it is a release under Heartbeat (CD HB 77), (p)(c) 1997 Poli-Rhythm, Ltd.
you have it as 1998-release????
You can add an 'extention' to the title, on the cover and CD it goes as:
Lee Scratch Perry Upsetter In Dub Upsetter Shop Volume One. The recodings on this compilation are from around 1976 - 1977 (mid-late 70s), you have a note: 1972-77??? Also from inside booklet of this compilation:
All songs written by Lee Perry and Published by Happy Valley Music, BMI
Licenced from G.G.'s Records, Kingston, Jamaica
Recorded in Kingston Jamaica at Black Ark and Randy's.
(you have in the note: 'Licensed' from Alvin Ranglin, which I am not sure about....????)
********
(the volume two (p)1999 - you have it listed also (Lee "Scratch" Perry & the Upsetters) -these are recordings from around 1969 through 1973.

also you can check some details on releases from Heartbeat here: Heartbeat Releases Individual Artists,
scroll down to Lee 'Scratch' Perry, then click on title- you get track listings, description and some actually RA-clips

well, man, just my micro-"contribution" ..heh heh

/respects
/Mike Zee aka Dr.ZEE
zee dub lab

"yeah, I wish to know a one single person on earth who has the complete collection. no way possible... "

Maybe some day...I'm working on it.

Thanks for the contributions, Mike and Aleph.

Most of the information was taken from "People Funny Boy", Scratch's biography, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some small mistakes as you suggested, I've noticed similar things throughout the book.

"Licenced from G.G.'s Records, Kingston, Jamaica
Recorded in Kingston Jamaica at Black Ark and Randy's.
(you have in the note: 'Licensed' from Alvin Ranglin, which I am not sure about....????)

Alvin Ranglin is GG Ranglin as far as I'm aware. The quotation marks are because he obtained the recordings illegally. I don't know much about that, but it has happened with Scratch before, and I've heard bad things about Heartbeat in that respect (I think on this site?).

Some of the albums at the bottom were just thrown in there without respect to when they were actually released. I just pasted them in at the bottom.

I also have a reggae database of sorts which you might like to contribute to . It's in ".wdb" format, so I don't know if you can access that.

I started a thread about it here.

also, looks like there's new release 2003 from RounderRecords/HeartbeatRecords:
Cutting Razor:Rare Cuts from the Black Ark,
i'm not sure if it's out or gion to be...
*****
I am not sure how to 100% correct to state in your listings regarding lable-titles etc... it's a puzzle sometimes. I've seen:
G.G.'s Records
G.G.'s Alvin Ranglin's Rec.
Alvin Ranglin's GG's Records
etc etc
or
GG's Records. Produced by Alvin Ranglin
Example:
One Way Ticket
Artist: The Maytones
Label: GG's
Year: 1980s
Produced: Alvin Ranglin,

ok,
later, man

keep workin' on roots archaeology
/respects,
/Mike Zee
