HM, go to the musicstore and try it (well, hopefully you have local music instruments store which has a place with bunch of guitar-pedals where you can plug'n play). I would not buy it before hearing. It maybe ok delay for general use, however it looks to me like this product is a sort of a cheap-trick (i maybe wrong thou...), but my wild guess is that it is more about nostalgia for a look and feel of it and not much about the actuall result. In the ugly(est) case it may be just a "smart" company move to make common digital effect-box more attractive (in a unique way) for buyer, another words there are so many vary just digital delays, but there is only one of a kind "real echo"
Here's quote from their own site:
Those tape echoes of the 50’s sure are cool. But they just don’t hold up.
Reel Echo™ gives the perfect simulation of those great 50’s tape echoes. With some important added features:...

When somebody say "perfect simulation" it makes me wonder and "red flag" is up - watch out, be careful ...
*************

/respects,
/Mike Zee aka Dr.ZEE

also,
from perspective of dub-pruduction (in general), this may be a very good addition in studio. Here's what I mean. If you look at it not from the point of trying to have Real Tape Echo, but simply as it IS. Let's say: this is a digital delay with a unique layout/design of specific parameter-control, so it is a great tool for dub-creativity in general. ...another words, use it not trying to recreate Real Echo, but to CREATE period
It looks like Disappointment and 'negative' reviews are comming from 'expectation' to actually hear a REAL THING comming from a 'fiction' ....
**********
Also I really don't see any reason for this unit to be priced over $99 ....

/Mike Zee

Hi,... I just got interrested to hear of any
possible experrience, I don´t just order ;-)

Line-6 got a rack-version also of some delay
pedal with "retro-sound" also this one got
mixed rewievs on harmony-central, but still
it is more temptating than the danelectro
I also got the RE-150 real thing now just
not got time to test probably the next few
mounths,......

Kocha uses the spring-king on some of his numbers there is some old postings somew-
here here about the subject, I think it
sounds ok on his tunes, so in lack of any
real spring I did order straight away, it
is a short type, and I plan to supply
with some longer ones, as found in the
19" MAM-spring, I was close to get a RE-
501 last week but missed it, it was 150 kilomiters away and I have no-longer car,
he would not send :-( , i also consder
the new Vermona thing some time later if
money allow, I have borrowed a RE-301 in
orde to test the spring, this will tell
if the Roland have an ok spring-sound, if
not I will just keep RE-150 (tape-only)
and keep look after a seccond-hand MAM,
I have a phone-number on some old repair-
man with lots of old tanks, I am able to
build from those but fear it takes up to
much time so spring-king for now

yes I will post when I have some real
experiense with the spring, but listen
up the kocha tunes might tell you more
than my own subjective opinion, I think
a short tank might be usefull to drums

Thanks for response to both

Henrik

The springs in roland's echos are very "boingy" and are described buy some as cheap. For dub, this could be a good thing. I only used it for reverb when I had no other spring verbs.

I keep the reverb turned off on my space echo most of the time, you cant re-inject the signal with it switched on or you get a big "howl" of feedback.

Hi I have recieved the Spring King, nice
sound on guitar, no tests on drums until
later, I will try to post some test later
perhaps on the dubroom also so files can
be attached, seemingly Mr Zee did not go
and have a listen on Kocha´s tunes :-)

If / When I find the time that is
maybe I can even compare to roland on
drum-response

btw real-echo ships at 99 euro now but I
decide to go for line 6 Pro echo in case
I will try a simulator

Henrik
