Hi there. I am a dj spinning dub and reggae music, and for a while now I have tried to figure out how I could incorporate a Delay/Echo effects unit into my 2 Turntables and 1 Mixer setup. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, as no DJ mixer on the market has AUX fx sends like a studio or live mixer. I have contemplated just buying a studio mixer and trying to mix and dj with that, but I don't think that is the right answer. Any advice?
C.

In simple words, in general you can't
Well, meaning that DJ-Mixers designed to just mix signal in from vary playing sources, and have a special features, to enable user to quickly cue/monitor any of the selected source , while sending out other selected sorices... plus x-fade of coures...
So you have all routings into the mixer...and only mix-out. To incorporate external processing device you need to route the signal from the channel out od the board, send through the device and return to the mixing board. Well, dohhhh
So what'cha gonna do? The answer is - nothing
Just get yourself a small 8-16 channel mixing board (so call compact pad)...every company makes them now.... some are really cheap....way cheaper than any good dj-mixer, btw
So with the pad, you'll be able to route your player's output through the pad, from there you can send signal to processor, while the same time send the dry signal into your dj-mixer...., the siganl from the processor you'll routeither to one of the channels of your dj-mixer (if you have extra channels there)....or to your PA mixer (if you use one).... or you can send main out from your dj mixer to the pad, and out from the effect-processor to the pad (to aux return or available channel), and pad's main out will go to your power amp or PA system.... well, there are a few options as you can see.... it depends on what exactly you are trying to achive with your effect processor.

sorry for non-stop typing and slappy writing. I am kind of on the run,
/respects,
/Mike Zee aka DrZEE

some (but most overdo it) djs do good stuff with a kaos pad (korg) or run outs thru little boss sampler fx but its not really the same without multitrack recordings to mess with...and having send/return wont fix that. If your fx has bypass and wet/dry control you could use it "in line" with one of your channels..

I recently did a DJ set using and old desk with built in analogue delay. Although it was pretty basic (contol over depth & speed) it added another angle to the set!

Heyhey, it's not true that there are no DJ-Mixers with Aux Send/Returns!!!
I bought a 3-Channel Vestax Mixer just a few months ago which has definitely got an Aux Send/Return with FX-switches for each Channel.
I'm using that in combination with a Lexicon MPX500
and an Akai Filterbank - nice toys!!!

yup! the vestax pcv 175 is a cheap costing 3 channel mixer with effects send and return.
korg kaoss pad is good.
or you could use a korg es-1
and use the audio in thru option and use the effects from that unit.
