if you mean digital multi-effect processors, then,
in general - anything you can put your hands on ,
actually there are allots of good boxes out there, better sound quality cost much more when it comes to digital-processors.
here are couple I think are great for the money:

multieffect: LexMPX110 ,
also check out other lexicon's boxes, they are all pretty good, vary prices thou...,

reverb: RolandSRV3030

also, Sam, when looking for eff-boxess for dub, search for things like this, as example for lex-110:
*****
Delay and Echo . . . Programs that include mono (5.5 seconds), stereo (2.7 seconds), and 6-voice multi-tap effects – each of which can be used to create tape echo or digital delay effects.
*****

as for reverbs, I think the most important quality of sound, and it is really hard to say without actually hearing it. Usually look for at least 24bit processing, well, some lower end boxes also can be used and sound OK, like I use couple of older digitech boxes, well, I've found my way around using them, but would not recommend it, really.....

later,

/Mike Zee
zee dub lab

Sam, I don't know, man, sorry, I never had/heard Alex in action. Here links for you to check out:
Lexicon Alex (user feedback)
and you can try to d-load use-guide from lex-site to see if you may find some info there: Alex User Guides

****
The cheapest multi-processor I have and actually use is old DigiTech TSR-6. It's ok box for i've paid, actually it is very useful in dub-production, because it's just soooooo easy to use, set parameters, it has parametric EQ one push-button and tweek (very useful for delays, you actually can tweek it in real time while mixin/dubbin, giving to delays different characteristics on the fly, you can create very cool and unique effects this way), also easy to store programs, just push 'store' , but again, it's not a top-Q. Also I don't know if digitech makes this units anylonger, I don't this so. Digitech StudioTwin is actually the newer version of TSR-6 as I see it. Here's link to check it out and user feed-back: DigitechStudioTwin,
try to search e-bay for something, you may be lucky to find good deal.
Also, just keep one thing in mind, and, man , this just what I think from my minimal experience, I have nothing to back it up, but I'd say this: if you are buying MULTI-effect processor some under $300, expect getting some good effects, and also a bunch of effects which 'reletively suck', some of the you'll never use. ESPECIALLY!!!!, if the box chain effects, and telling you something like: You can chain up to 4-8 effects ...he he he, well, the thing is, yeah you can chain them, but the result you get is REALLY UGLY, it works something like this: more effects you chain, more DSP power it takes, less sound/processing quality the result. So you may be better off with the box which does not look like very complex, has less effects, but may sound better and be more useful after all. As example, I have digitech studio-Quad (4x4), and it can do very complex effects combination, but I never use it this way, because sound quality really sucks, but it sounds OK, if you just use one effect, or maximum two in combination...

oh, well, man, good luck shoppin'...

later,

/Mike Zee
zee dub lab

hey, Sam, check out this Yamaha SPX-90 at e-bay, it was $66 latest bid: Link To E-Bay ,
if this link does not work (which I don't think will, 'cos when ever there's "=" in the url, it gets broken on this board), then copy/paste to address this url:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dl ... 1509213703

*****
I don't know this unit myself, but you can read some feedback here , does not look so bad if you get it under 80-100 bucks...

well, just an extra thing for you to check out.

later,

/Mike Zee

Zoom have a couple of newish multi fx out , the RFX1000 , RFX 2000 (same a sbefore only with midi) and a budget pedal sized version. these have all been reduced by about £100 and are well worth checking out as they are good entry level pro gear. the rfx 2000 has a few more features like a vocoder (quite decent) and a ring mod(ok). its especially attractive as if you have a pc or midi sequencer you can program in any amount of knob tweaking and let it do its thing. i got mine for about £150. i use it mainly for bread-and-butter fx as i have a few pedals which sound better (eg tube distortion , tape delays etc).

hi. i ve post this "review" in the dubroom forum but it could maybe help here too: SONY DPS-V55M for user review go to:http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/ ... 01.html orhttp://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/ ... 01.html for review go to:http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/jan99/arti ... 821.htm All i can say is: IT S TRUE!!! you won t find a fx unit at this price with a better sound. all 200 factory presets are usuable and easy to customise and save in 200 user preset. great very very high quality reverb but in this case you can only use the unit as one stereo fx. very high quality double multifx such flange reverb or pitch reverb or wha reverb good phaser too.amazing tape rewing forward effect etc.it s a shame that midi implementation for the five contoller for each effect are NO possible cos tweak one parameter with the dial knob produce great fx. so you ll need to "sample" your live modifications or buy several units as they(presets)are all so good. by the way this is one of the most quiet fx i ever heard.more than 700 euros lexicon range or digitech boss etc.if you can pick up one second hand for 350/380 euros don t hesitate BUY BUY BUY. you won t regret.and immediatly feel that "STUDIO" classy sound. audioforge

Im looking for something to really tweak sound with. Ring mod, distortion, vocoding, short feedback delays, phasing, flanging etc.. I dont mind if its cheap, if it is itll just sound different. I dont need clean reverbs or delays, Ive got those covered, I just want something that can mangle sound, preferably all of the above mentioned effects at the same time. Any suggestions?
