What i want do do at the moment is dub up tracks as im playing them out at events, adding delay maybe some weird effects stuff like that, as when i've seen people doing it live really gets the crowd going. Could you suggest any units that would be suitable for that sort of stuff? I dont really know where to look or any names to follow up so i'd be really greatful for your help. one love, rob |

You need a mixing desk with nuff auxes, FX machines like reverb, delay, maybe some phaser. just trust you ears when buying gear. test it in the shop. Or check DUB techniques on my website, there's some info on live dubbing http://www.dubcreator.net |

when dubbing out my keyboard parts in my live roots band, The Uplifters, I run each keyboard through it's own dedicated effects loop, then into a roland kc-500 amp (4 stereo channels). the effects i'm currently running for clavinet and wurlitzer are: Line 6 delay modelers (in my opinion, these are incredible at reproducing the old tape echo effects), wah, electro-harmonix small stone phase shifter, univox proverb spring reverb tank, univox phazer. i run the hammond straight, no effects. check it out: http://www.theuplifters.com |

my secret to live dubbing is a nord modular for most things, it is incredibly versatile. I run an effects loop through it and it provides all my basic phaser, filter, and much more complex needs and it has a built in compressor and expander. I run it through a paia tube head to dirty it a little. For delay i use a roland 201 space echo. For reverb duty a paia dual spring unit. I run a rhodes rigged for midi that controls a nord electro rack also. I also use a paia modular synth for wierd sounds that sound great for delay. The key I have found for live dubbing is having a simple but incredibly versatile setup that you can manipulate without thinking. just feel the sounds move through you. Some times I hear something cool and i dont even realize I am playing it. There is definetly a strong power to live dubbin. |

I use two reel to reel 4 tracks. One with the source, and the other for echo. Dital delay piece for phaser and fast delays and for looping. A nice old spring reverb, and a 4 track mixer. The source is bass an drum, and maybe some organ, with nice long tracks. Once we get a good dub going on stage, we grab instruments like cornet or like some bells or we chant. Then I put them away and work the dub some more. But the system is the most important part, everything after the last mixer because thats the instrument, we are playing speakers in the end. |
