"Roots Of Dub Bass[represe]" - electronic du

Post by Mike Zee » Fri Feb 01, 2002 7:51 am

Hi, guys,
I thought to drop a note here.
If you have nothing to do ;), check out one of my tracks: "Roots Of Dub Bass [represe]" , direct link at ampcast: Play: LoFi/HiFi or Download HERE
this is the last track of one of latest albums TONIC [triangular trance part 1],
which is actually trance-album from my TRIANGULAR ELECTRO project. Two mega-tracks on this albums are "three-part" tracks, where trance groove is being seamlessly transformed into reggae-based groove with dubbin' effects. So this track is a represe of the ending tail of the second track of the album "FANTASMA".
The track is VERY electro ,

hope somebody here may dig it,

best regards,
'n respects,

Mike Zee
zee dub lab

oppppsssss, looks like 'direct link' above is broken.
I can't post here direct link, because "=" is breaking the URL here on b-board somehow after you post it ... some tech-thinggggyyyy ,

so, well, the only way to do it, to go to:
TONIC album page HERE , and it's the last track on the track listing, and the link to play/download is there....

sorry for the mess,

/Mike Zee

"Roots Of Dub Bass[represe]" - electronic du

Post by Hoester » Sat Feb 02, 2002 10:09 am

I am just listening to 'Roots of Dub Bass'. Housy Jazz Dub, isn't it? A good production doubtless, a good song structure also. The bass could be some heavier, lower. Drumwork is good, but some delays and 'stops' would add more color to the mix. The synth skank has a great clear sound but is too dominant in my opinion, it takes too much room in the mix.

Hoester
http://www.hoester.com

Hoestr, thank You much for listening and feedback, man, appreciate it.
I have no probs with your critical points. Drumwork in this track I'd say pretty week from DUB-point of view, and yeah synth-skanks are WAY to loud, however it was designed to be this way for this album. Housy-Jazz??? he he , I don't know about that, really. I would not put it into any category. Again, you see, this is not really a stand-alone track, in a sense. As I've said, the idea in this track (the album is designed for trance/electronica listener in general, and 80% of the album is trance music) was to inject dub elements into. So if you imagin the long muti-part trance-track which is morphing into this dubbin'-groove at the end (part 3), step-by-step, changing trance groove into reggae-ish groove, while keeping the same bmp and most of sound-set..., well you've got the idea.
BTW, I have mp3-to-stream of the whole track at my mp3.c page, here is the link, if you care to check it out: FANTASMA [part 1, 2 and 3] , but it is for stream only there, and the track is almost 17 mins long, also part 3 has some different twists of dubbin'effects, than on the 'represe', 'cos I do it all on-the-fly while mixing, so effects/delays are always different... one of a kind ..sort of speak.
Also, man, if you you listen to the whole 'FANTASMA' you may fall to sleep, , it's a trance stuff, he he, well, to me the whole "cool-ness" there is when it get into dub-feel, so you have to dig both trance and dub...then you may have a chance to like it ...maybe, you know.
******

thanks again, man,

will talk to You later,

best regards 'n'respects.

/Mike Zee
zee dub lub

oh, btw, if you stream from mp3.com and you have latest winamp version (get it at winamp.com if you don't), then you can advance ahead, just by moving progress-bare, so you can skip parts you don't want to listen. So if you listen to FANTASMA, you jump to mark somewhere 10:00 and you get that transection and the end of the track.
With fast connection, you can listen to HiFi pretty much like you play mp3 file from you hard disk.

later,

/m z

I did as you suggested and started Fantazma at about 9:30. I see the context now and yes - it is a dubby attempt to Trance. 'Housy Jazz Dub' just came to my mind when listening to 'Roots of Dub Bass'. Now that I am some wiser I would rather call it 'Jazzy Trance Dub'.

Hoester

Hoester, thanks a bunch again for listen. Glad you did, so you've got the idea what I'm blah-blah-ing here about . As you see nothing really special here. I don't really know how I've got into the vibe on this album. I was making trance/minimal electro tracks, and I guess it's just because dub feel is seating somewhere in my brain, while I'm mixing trancy track I keep hearing dubbin' groove within, which is not really there ...sort of speak., so I've made couple injections this way into the album. Not sure if it will do any good for "popularization" of dub in trance-fans-listener-community, they actually may hate it, you know..., as well, dub-heads may say: "GRRRRRRRRR, this is no-dub-crap..." , he he
So, I get 'minus' both way ...., but who knows, maybe some individuals may dig this kind of stuff.
I myself, as listener, am pretty "conservative"..., but nothing stops me to try to experiment.

thanks again,
be around,

all the best to you,

respects,

/Mike Zee
zee dub lab
