THE INTERRUPTOR : 3 new dubs

Post by interruptor » Sat May 18, 2002 11:26 pm

Here you can listen to 3 new Dubs of mine:

African Satelite Dub lofi play
A hymn to mother Africa - birthplace of the human race.

Confident Dub lofi play
fast stepping beat with a joyous horn line and some funky crickets from my parents garden..
For hifi streaming go here.

Inner City Dub (1 minute sample) lofi hifi
The tune featured on Roots of Dub Funk 2.
Work on this Dub started when Manhattan was still covered with gray dust from the World Trade Center. The horrifying pictures we have all seen on TV made their way into this almost painfully broken beat.

Any comments and suggestions would be very welcome.

Daniel aka The Interruptor

Good work, Interruptor!
Solid riddims, nice FX. Interesting to hear 'African Satelite Dub', always surprising. 'Confident Dub' could be a little bit fatter in my opinion. Best one of this package is 'Inner City Dub' with a fantastic riddim, and great *laser* sounds.

Respect,
Hoester
www.hoester.com

Thanks a lot for your comments Hoester.. Is there anything specific you would suggest to fatten up "Confident Dub"?

BigUp
Daniel aka The Interruptor

OK, I will try to analyse some more detailled on 'Confident Dub':

* Drums:
Hihats could have some more empahsis on the lower frequencies. I think they are simply tuned (or EQed?) too high. Is there a BD in the drums? I can not hear it, maybe this is another reason why I feel the drums a little thin. The percussion on the other hand is just right.

* Bass:
Good and fat bassline, perhaps a little bit too deep in subsonic range.

* Guitar:
To my taste the guitars could have been some more in the foreground, perhaps just some dB louder.

* Organ:
I would have drawn the organ one octave lower to get some more low-mid frequency power.

* Horns:
Very good use of the *funny* horn line. Not too often, but enough to give new impulses to the Dub.

By the way, how does it come you are on mp3.com now?

With confidence,
Hoester

This site is brilliant. I haven't heard the music just yet but if it is two-thirds as good as the site then I'm gonna be.....

I just listened to the Inner City Dub sample.......THe Sample is too short I like where it seemed to be headed.....personally it didn't sound like dub....but, hey. It was slick.
I dunno it sounds like a drum'n'bass tune. the first second sounds like dub....
this isn't meant to sound horribly negitive by the way....just, dub is reggae and that ain't reggae (the 30 second I heard).

Hi Hoester & bin_ez

Thanks for taking your time for these detailed hints. Regarding your questions:

- Bass drum: Yes, the bass drum is there (on every beat, steppers style). I was trying to get as close as possible to a seventies sound and therefore didn't want to use the equalised "click" on top of the bass drum that was so much en vogue in the eighties. The result in this tune is that the bass drum melts together with the bass line almost completely. I probably went too far here since you are already the second person who feels a more audible bass drum would be better!

- mp3: The tunes from my album "Mosquitos & Electrons" are hosted by Besonic. Mostly because mp3.com where just too picky about the use of samples. (As soon as they think something might be suited for commercial marketing they insist on "sample free" production - I guess they fear to get in legal problems)
The new tune "Confident Dub" is sample free and was accepted straight away. That's why it's on mp3.com now!

- to bin_ez: I am swiss and living in Zurich Switzerland.

BigUp
Daniel
