The Stylus RMX 1.2 update has just been released which includes 3 new effects one of which is (to quote the site):

Spring Verb – The spring returns! A funky retro effect that faithfully models the sound of the old vintage ‘spring reverb’ tanks of yesteryear, with loads of original character. The stereo image can be drastically altered and tone-shaping controls can be placed before or after the spring. Perfect for dub mixes and if you want your tracks to have that “classic” sound of the 50s and 60s.

I'll check it out over the weekend, and I'll let you know how faithful it really is. I wonder if this is after all this time a decent vst spring.

Yeah, Neil, if you get a cjance to test it - drop a note.
I "love" the skin ( link to picture: see pic )
I guess if you have a pic of spring on your screen - you may feel like it's more real. You see, it is the same marketing "tactics": - treat the image of the source to influence the perception of the outcome. :)
Actually I am starting finding it to be 'inaccurate', when spring reverb is being referred to as something "retro", "old" etc... oh well as "classic" etc... I mean, yes spring has got some good years behind, but most best new guitar amps DO HAVE spring - brand NEW!!!!, and the spring there is not in the name of "retro", it is there not to spice the amp with some "classic" attraction, but simply IS there! - meaning: it is there now for what it does, 'cos nothing else does the same thing. BTW when playing guitar through amp w spring - you know how it is: spring is very sensetive and responsive to playing techniques/style effect by its nature. Spring becomes like a part of instrument you play, same as the cone itself (amp as a whole). Ha, I don't hear speaker-cone being referred to as "retro-classic" ..hah hah (maybe not yet??? , see what I mean. :)

yeah, yeah - speaker modeling is a big buiseness now too ...

I think this effect is NOT a VSTi, but internal
stylus thing only, just like the spring-plug in
reason 2.5, a "plug in the plug" so to say

You're right, it only works as part of Stylus, and you can't route audio through Stylus, so it can only be used on sounds being made in Stylus.

I was curious from a technical point of view, to see if a spring had been done well in the vst environment.

Well, in a word, no.
It gives a flavour of spring - certainly the tonality seems right, the bright edge, and its OK buried in a busy mix. But on its own or in a mix of typical dub sparseness, the shape of the sound is not good. There is a very grainy thing going on and it sounds a bit 'plastic'. If I didn't have my Spacexpander, I might possibly use it, but it doesn't come close, so I won't be.
