How Sounds A Stepper Skank ?

Post by jerricho » Sun May 03, 2009 6:14 pm

Hello

I'm trying to work about the particular sound of a Uk Dub Stepper Skank,
have you got any comment about this nu kind of skank ? Dubstep try to increase dis time too…

I'm talking about some sound skank like king earthquake or iration steppa indeed, very metalic in the approach and very "phasing" in the result.

Sometimes it sound like a hapsichord or a clav, at the starting point is it a piano or a guitar skank ? Full chord or one note tap ? Is it a question of gate ? how can I have the steppin' sensation with the echo and without a "cling" ?

Check Dub Anthem part. 2 on http://mp3horde.com/album-artist_-_albu ... sub=skycc2 for an exemple

Thx for support

Hi. To me this sounds like clavi chords with sum phaser on it. I have used
a sound in the past that is very similar to this maybe exactly the same
and it came from a roland keyboard i think it was model E-38 or
something.

Thanks JahNice

It was one of my root for the research… What about the phasing ?
is it particular in the controls ? What about the fingers ? Chords or One-note skank ? Thanks a lot for the direction, I will try something about dat.

Ah! the phaser! it's THE magic tool for skanks! personaly i put a low cut at 150htz when i use phasing(on skanks) in order to keep the bassline clean...

You're definitvely right !!! The biggest problem with the phasing is all the noise that it put into the sound, but it construct the body of the skank…

All the work on dis kind of skank sound is to find the limite point of a single sound with a chord sensation, sometimes it could be a little bit crispy in the sound but it gives material for the scoops…

sometimes I try to kick the rounded sensation of the phaser, just to have the coloration, even the cycling effect is a big part of the phaser…

Anyway, Maxximum Respect for the tips…
