greetings. some time ago i bought at ebay Fisher spacexpander but it took me a while to buy tubes, do potentiometer and buy separate reverb tank (accutronics).

today finally i managed to hook it up and im not sure if everything works properly. even when preamp is in "reverb only" mode i think i get some bleeding from original track. is it normal? i compared it with my roland space echo reverb and i think think there is to much hihats bleed in Fisher unit.

ofcourse i can pre equalize it to get desired effect but im just curious.

here are exaples:

space echo reverb

fisher reverb

please advise

PS. both tracks are 100% wet so you hear pure output from both reverbs

I don't understand what you mean.
The Spacexpander processes whatever you put into it. If what you put into it has hi-hat than reverbed hi-hat will be part of what comes out.

If you mean the Spacexpander is outputting sounds you have not fed into it then it might just be possible that it is picking up sounds as radiated waves - the tank is very sensitive to electromagnetic signals near it.

Could it be that it's your SpaceEcho at fault and it's that that is not working properly?

hi Neil. thanks for reply.

what i meant was that im not able to get pure 100% wet signal (reverb only) from fisher output even when switch in fisher preamp is in"reverb" mode.

right now i get ~90% wet signal + additional ~10% of dry signal.

so my question is: if its normal or something is wrong with my unit.

my space echo works flawlessly and i get pure 100% wet signal from it.

i hope now my question is more clear:)

100% wet reverb will still retain many elements of a mix, including hi-hat. It just makes your mix sound like it's being played through a system in a huge empty sports hall.
Your example sounds like my Spacexpander reverb only.
Try setting a sofware reverb to 100% with the same input.

If you were playing the same thing through the Space Echo as the Spacexpander I would say the reverb of the SpaceEcho is faulty, although I say that without experience of a real Space Echo. When I put the same signal through my UAD Space Echo there is more of the original sound at 100% than in the Lexicon reverb I tried it through.
